All I Want
Kodaline (c: Nicholas Yee) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All I want is nothing more
To hear you knocking at my door
'Cause if I could see your face once more
I could die as a happy man I'm sure

When you said your last goodbye
I died a little bit inside
I lay in tears in bed all night
Alone without you by my side

But If you loved me
Why did you leave me

Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh

'Cause you brought out the best of me
A part of me I'd never seen
You took my soul wiped it clean
Our love was made for movie screens

But If you loved me
Why did you leave me
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh oh
Ooh ah
Ooh oh

Ooh, if you loved me
Why did you leave me
Take my body
Take my body
All I want is
All I need is
To find somebody
I'll find somebody

Like you, ooh

Overall Meaning

In Kodaline's song All I Want, the singer is expressing his longing for the return of a former lover. He declares that all he wants is to hear her knocking at his door and see her face again. He believes that if he could just have that one glimpse of her, he would die as a happy man.

In the second verse, the singer recounts his heartbreak after his lover's last goodbye. He confesses that he "died a little bit inside" and spent the whole night crying alone in bed without her. He then questions why she left him if she truly loved him.

The chorus continues with the singer pleading for someone to take his body so he can move on and find another lover. However, he admits that no one can replace his former partner, who he believes brought out the best in him and showed him a part of himself he had never seen before.

Overall, the song conveys a message of lost love and the desperate desire to feel that way again with someone new.

I've carried the beauty and meaning of this song in my heart for 7 years, and it still moves me to tears today, making me cry tears of both sadness and beauty.

Back then, I shared it with a dear friend who was struggling with her self-image, hoping it would bring her solace.
Today, she reminded me of the impact it had on her life, and I received a million thanks.

This song is a testament to the kindness that can be found in music; it has been a source of strength for my friend and countless others.

Thank you, Kodaline, for crafting a masterpiece the power of music to heal, console, and unite. ❤❤

I know.
It’s all wrong
By rights we shouldn’t even be here.
But we are.
It’s like in the great stories Mr. Frodo.
The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness and danger they were,
and sometimes you didn’t want to know the end.
Because how could the end be happy.
How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad happened.
But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass.
A new day will come.
And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer.
Those were the stories that stayed with you.
That meant something.
Even if you were too small to understand why.
But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand.
I know now.
Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t.
Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo : What are we holding on to, Sam?
Sam : That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.
