Overall Meaning

Konshens’s song, “She’s Happy,” is a father’s prayer to God. He’s asking God to give him the strength to provide for his little daughter, Carissa, and never let her belly be empty. The father reveals that in tough times when he prays, his little girl is the source of his strength. He is willing to do whatever it takes and sacrifice his life to give her the finer things in life. The lyrics show a special bond between a father and his daughter, and the unconditional love for her happiness regardless of his own struggles.

Konshens uses “likkle” to mean little, a dialect of Jamaican patois. Jamaican patois is a creole language that originated from different languages like English, Spanish, Dutch, and West African languages. The lyrics reflect the bond of many fathers and daughters, but especially African American families who have a strong cultural history of familial support in the face of hardship.
