Reclaim My Place
Korn Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm so numb therefore I can't relate
I'm so dumb, there is nothing to hate
Really is it me or is it fate?
Give me peace or release, for fuck's sake
Give them something to say
All I hear is disgrace
Erase them all and reclaim my place
In the past I was known as a freak
Had no friends, picked on 'cause I was weak
Sang my ass off, got into this band
Never thought the band would pick on the man
Give them something to say
Something super fly, never played
All I hear is disgrace
Erase them all and reclaim my place
Reclaim my place
Reclaim my place
Reclaim my place
Say it to my face
So I look around at all these stupid little faces
Something I can never slap but I embrace
You'll never ever see, you'll never ever be
You want to fuck around? Then come on fuck with me
You think you can relate? You'll never ever find
You think you feel my hate? Look at me and you will find
My fate you always raped, I will always be the sound
You want to fuck with me, come on, fucking play
Now you can feel it, my heart beats down
Yes, you feel it come, right now
You can feel it, my heart beats down
Yes, you feel it come, right now
You can feel it, my heart beats down
Yes, you feel it come, bow down
Bow down, bow down, bow down
Give them something to say
Something super fly, never played
All I hear is disgrace
Erase them all and reclaim my place
What the fuck?
What the fuck? (So)
What the fuck?
What the fuck? (So)
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
What the fuck?
The lyrics of Korn's song Reclaim My Place express the feelings of abandonment, frustration, and a strong desire to rise above the struggles of the past. The song is about the lead vocalist, Jonathan Davis, finding his place in the world and making a name for himself, despite dealing with loneliness and bullying as a child. The song starts off with Davis feeling so numb that he cannot relate to anything or anyone around him, the loneliness and the pain he feels manifesting as a sense of emotional numbness. Davis expresses his frustration, wondering if his circumstances are a result of fate or of his own doing. He pleads for peace or release to free him from his struggles.
Davis recounts his journey to where he is currently, starting as an outcast called a freak, with no friends and being picked on because of his weakness. He found solace in his music, singing his ass off to get into Korn but is now constantly being picked on by the very band he admires. The chorus is an affirmation that Davis is ready to fight for his place and his identity by giving those who judge him something to say that he never played before. He wants to erase any negativity connected to his past and reclaim his place in the world.
The song sets a tone of rebellion, and its aggression and power come through in the overall sound and lyrics. The song resonated with a lot of their fans, who also experienced bullying and isolation. Reclaim My Place is a hard rock song and one of Korn's angrier, high-tempo tracks.
