Somebody saw what I couldn't
See and lifted me up now
I never thought I could be worthy of
Loving under the sky
Above, don't let the thunder fall
Why does everybody have to fit in?
Skin, does that mean I am the
Souvenir of sadness
Method to the madness
Hands up if you feel this
Anyone who has this
Stand up, nobody's dying to save you
Speak up, nobody's waiting to see you
Wake up, nobody's working to pay you
Let me make it clear you'll have this
Back then, nobody knew in the schoolyard
Now then, you have grown up to be this hard
Go then, walk through this world with your heart scarred
You're the souvenir of sadness
They never knew what I was gonna say
Punch me and kick me and run
Away, you know who you are so
Now look at me, what do you have to say?
Never cared much for you anyway
You know who you are so
Now look at me, what do you have to say?
Never cared much for you any-
Happy childhood back-lash
Souvenir of sadness
Method to the madness
Hands up if you feel this
Anyone who has this
Stand up, nobody's dying to save you
Speak up, nobody's waiting to see you
Wake up, nobody's working to pay you
Let me make it clear you'll have this
Back then, nobody knew in the schoolyard
Now then, you have grown up to be this hard
Go then, walk through this world with your heart scarred
You're the souvenir of sadness
Souvenir of sadness
Method to the madness
Hands up if you feel this
Anyone who has this
Stand up, nobody's dying to save you
Speak up, nobody's waiting to see you
Wake up, nobody's working to pay you
Let me make it clear you'll have this
Back then, nobody knew in the schoolyard
Now then, you have grown up to be this hard
Go then, walk through this world with your heart scarred
You're the souvenir of sadness
The lyrics of "Souvenir" by Korn delve into the theme of self-discovery and self-worth. At the beginning of the song, the singer talks about not knowing what he would become until someone else showed him the potential he couldn't see. He realized his worthiness of love and wants to avoid letting the "thunder" of negative thoughts and self-doubt dampen his progress.
In the chorus, the singer recognizes that many people try to conform to the expectations of the society and feel comfortable in their skin. He feels like an outsider or weirdo ("Souvenir of sadness") for not fitting in with the crowd. He describes himself as someone who has a method to his madness and implores others who share his views to put their hands up. The song is a call to people like him to stand up, speak up, and wake up because nobody is going to save them. The bridge part specifically addresses the bully from the past who used to beat up on the singer but now can't say anything to insult him. The singer has moved on from that negativity and is aware of his self-value.
