Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kraftwerk's "Computer World" reflect the interconnectedness of technology and the modern world, as well as the power dynamic that exists between technological advancements and the entities that control them. The song lists several governmental and financial institutions, such as Interpol, Deutsche Bank, the FBI, and Scotland Yard, insinuating that these entities have some level of control or influence over the world of technology. The repetition of "Business, Numbers, Money, People" emphasizes the instrumental role that these institutions play in the modern world, and their continued relevance in the digital age. The chorus, "Computer World," underscores the overarching theme of the song, which is a world dominated and shaped by technology.

The second verse of the song delves deeper into the ways in which technology pervades our lives, noting that it touches on everything from crime and travel to communication and entertainment. The line "Crime, Travel, Communication, Entertainment" speaks to the comprehensive nature of modern technology and its impact on every aspect of society. The chorus is repeated once more, driving home the message of the song.

After my dad passed last year, I've been going through his old stuff and found the vinyl of this album. I always knew he had good taste in music, but never knew it was this good. Even found The Man Machine vinyl as well

@thecrapbitgamer

My sincerest condolences first off...but absolutely he had great taste! Some of the most impactful music you could come across! It's really a crime how little is known still about how influential Kraftwerk has been for a lot of artist, even aside from the amazing and controversial connection to both Soul Sonic Force and less controversial connection to Coldplay! I mean even today, I listen a lot to Vaporwave music and I can see so much of their influence in that as well! Great finds too, I treasure all of my Kraftwerk original vinyls, they will always be some of my greatest pieces in my vinyl collection, so I hope you covet them as much as I do! Be safe and be well my friend!

your dad is the best

@tonyquek1

your dad has the same taste as mine 🥰

@Matthew1981

my father prefered getting wasted and smashing his entire record collection before i was born but to each their own. PS one of my best value village finds was Computer World on cassette about 6 years ago.

@aubreylear

my dad just died last week. I don't think he was aware of kraftwerk, but he definitely got me started on the road to discovering them

Blew my mind when I heard this for the first time back in 1981. it was a brand new sound and it was very exciting. Couldn't stop playing it. Definitely the best Kraftwerk album and perhaps one of the best electronic albums of all time.

@drazensimic

Sonically, the most influential band of all time.

@shaft9000

"Numbers" is, for the era, a severely slamming beat in a mix that energy-wise blew the doors off of anything else you'd hear at the time. Seemed like it wasn't until DM's 'people are people' a few years later that we got a more slamming beat from any pop group.

@petergorm

I have been a Kraftwerk fan since 1978 when Man Machine came out. I was the only one insisting on playing Kraftwerk to my friends. They always complained, but I insisted. Lol! I am still a fan, also of this album. I was 12 years old in 1978. I am almost 57 years old now. Still mindblowing music!
