Yes! No!
Yes! No!
I don't want to be your sex object
Show some feeling and respect
I don't want to be your sex object
I've had enough and that's a fact
Yes! No!
Yes! No!
I don't want to be your sex object
You play your tricks they're just perfect
I don't want to be your sex object
You turn me on then you forget
No! Why? (Sex)
No! Why? (Sex)
Maybe, Perhaps, Yes!
Maybe, Perhaps, Yes!
Yes! No!
Yes! No!
I don't want to be your sex object
You play your tricks they're just perfect
I don't want to be your sex object
I've had enough and that's a fact
[Spanish: No! Yes! Maybe Perhaps Yes]
No... si, si quieres
No... si, si quieres
Por que? No. Quizas.
Por que? No. A lo mejor.

Overall Meaning

Kraftwerk's "Sex Object" is a song about rejecting the traditional patriarchal notion of women being viewed and treated as solely sexual objects for men's pleasure. The song is a call-out to both men who only see women as objects to take advantage of and a plea to other women to join the fight for gender equality. The opening lines of "Yes! No! Yes! No!" emphasize the duality of being viewed as only a sex object or being seen and treated as a respected human being. The repeated chant of "I don't want to be your sex object" drives home the message that women deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, and not just as objects for male pleasure.

The lyrics further depict the frustration and disappointment felt by women who are misled and mistreated by men who only see them as objects of desire. The line "You play your tricks they're just perfect/ You turn me on then you forget" highlights the fact that many men treat women as disposable objects to use and forget once they are done. The use of Spanish in the song, specifically the lines that translate to "No! Yes! Maybe Perhaps Yes" not only serves to emphasize the universal nature of this issue but also speak to the Latin American influences evident in the band's music.

@XyNoST

Totally a let down after Man Maschine and Computer World for some people but still a BRILLIANT album !!

@thereverendepi_gee565

you might be right, it's AMAZING...

@RegebroRepairs

Yeah, it's underrated because it sounded old and outdated when it came out. The pioneers had become copies.

@erichockett1668

The WERKS were before their time as well as Right on Time ! Without the Elements they provided Techno & Hop Hop would have been Denied its fullness not too Mention DRUM MACHINES . This group definitely does not get the recognition that it deserves. So at this time I'd like to acknowledge the group Kraftwerk and give them big ups and thank them for their contribution to this is world Of music.

I will make my future kids love this band. Thanks for inspiring me as a single woman lol.

@Killerdillerboy

I think it was their best album in many ways Electric Cafe stated them as the worlds NO 1 Techno band and re-introduced themselves with great style after the legendary 70's they had made - Technically Electric Cafe is a milestone in electrobic music and Kraftwerk showed new sides and they did developed their own sound with a great honour on this magnificent album "Electric Cafe"!! Respect!..

@1984Contra

I definitely agree. Usually it is not (to my understanding) critically acclaimed as their best, but I think it is weird enough and disparate enough of an album to encompass their genre-defining music. Whenever I introduce someone to Kraftwerk, I show them this album.
