Yesterday in a crowded room
Well I'm not judgin' I'm just wonderin' why? just bein' you
And you can tell me it's not but I can see right through you
You're sayin' things
I've never heard
And this side of you I've
Where you been hidin'
Sister who are you
I know it's not easy
Bein' only you
And I know you now 'cause I now I know who you really are
Yes all along I was played
Had to keep this part of you
Far from me
But I knew you oh so completely yeah
I liked what I saw until you broke down those walls and let me see you
I know this sounds bad but I hope I'm not wastin' my time on you
'Cause you're doin' things
I've never seen
And this side of you is
Killin' me now
Where you been hidin'
Sister who are you
I know it's not easy
Bein' only you
But I know you now 'cause I now I know who you really are
Yes all along I was played
Where you been hidin'
Sister who are you
I know it's not easy
Bein' only you
And I know you now 'cause I now I know who you really are
Yes all along I was played
Where you been hidin'
'Cause I know it's not easy doin' what you do
And I know you now 'cause I now I know who you really are
Yes all along I was played
Yes all along I was played
Yes all along I was played
At the core of "I Was Played" by Kris Allen is a sense of betrayal and disillusionment with a person that the singer thought he knew. The opening verse suggests that the person in question behaves differently in a one-on-one setting than they do in public, prompting the singer to question their authenticity. However, despite his suspicions, the singer is taken aback by the extent of the revelations that follow in subsequent verses. The person he thought he knew opens up to him in ways that he had never witnessed before, causing him to feel conflicted about what he has just learned.
The chorus of the song is particularly poignant, as the singer comes to a realization of the extent of his naivety. He had been played, in the sense that the person he thought he knew was not the person that they had presented themselves as. This realization is difficult to come to terms with, as is evident from the repetition of the line "Where you been hidin'," which suggests that the singer is still grappling with the idea that he had been blind to important aspects of the person's character all along.
Overall, "I Was Played" is a song that many listeners will connect with on a personal level. It speaks to the pain of realizing that someone you cared about was not who they appeared to be, and the sense of betrayal that comes with that realization. The song is characterized by a sense of emotional honesty and vulnerability that will strike a chord with many listeners.

Yeah I think it's great he went through Idol...now everyone knows who he is. I know it's normal to be scared his post-Idol stuff won't sound like his style but I read an article about how he was saying he'll try to keep it his style and not over-produced sounding...sounds like he wants to do a combination of things. No one else has really said this but besides John Mayer and Jason Mraz, I think he also sounds like Matt Wertz...a combination of those three, yet still his own, unique sound.
