She Works Hard for the Money

So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
Onetta there in the corner stand
And she's wonders where she is
And it's strange to her
Some people seem to have everything
Nine a.m. on the hour hand
And she's waiting for the bell
And she's looking real pretty
Just waiting for her clientèle
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
Twenty five years have come and gone
And she's seen a lot of tears
Of the ones who come in
They really seem to need her there
It's a sacrifice working day to day
For little money just tips for pay
But it's worth it all
Just to hear them say that they care
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
She already knows
She's seen her bad times
She already knows
These are the good times
She'll never sell out
She never will not for a dollar bill
She works hard, so hard
She works hard
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
She works hard for the money
So hard for it, honey
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
She works hard for the money
So you better treat her right
The song “She Works Hard for the Money” by Kris Allen is bassed on the life of a woman named Onetta Johnson, a bathroom attendant in a Hollywood night club whom Summer met and talked with. The song is about the struggles of a working-class woman who has to work hard to make ends meet. The song talks about how hard she works for every single penny that she earns and how important it is to treat her with respect and kindness. Onetta wonders why some people have everything and she is still struggling to provide for herself.
The lyrics also suggest that people who work jobs like Onetta’s are sacrificing a lot just to earn minimum wage. They work long hours, deal with tough customers and get little money in return. However, despite these struggles, they keep going because they care about the people they serve. The song says that treating these hard-working people with respect is important.
