Waiting For The Rain
Kris Berry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

When the day is done and the sweet sky’s gloaming
There’s a shining star upon your way back home
Straight to me
Don’t you worry, I’m in no hurry
I’ll be sitting by the window waiting for the rain
Fallin’ down on my window pane
Waiting for the rain
If ever you’ll come around looking for someone like me
Be sure to check the lost and found
You never know what would be
Don’t you worry, I’m in no hurry
I’ll be sitting by the window waiting for the rain
Fallin’ down on my window pane
Waiting for the rain

How long will you keep me waiting
How long will you leave my heart aching
Waiting for the rain

How long will you keep me waiting
How long will you leave my heart aching
Waiting for the rain

When the day is done and the sweet sky’s gloaming
There’s a shining star upon your way back home
Straight to me, no no no
Don’t you worry, I’m in no hurry
I’ll be sitting by the window waiting for the rain
Fallin’ down on my window pane
Waiting for the rain

Mmmm there’s a storm coming tonight
Mmmm there’s a storm coming tonight
Mmmm there’s a storm coming tonight

Mmmm there’s a storm coming tonight
Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kris Berry's song "Waiting For The Rain" convey a sense of longing and expectation for someone to come back home. The singer describes herself as being patient and waiting for the rain to fall, symbolizing a hope for renewal and reconciliation. She encourages the person she is waiting for to take their time and not rush, while at the same time expressing her own desire to be reunited with them. Throughout the song, there is a sense of uncertainty and doubt, as the singer questions how long she will have to wait and whether the person she is waiting for will come back.

The line "If ever you'll come around looking for someone like me, be sure to check the lost and found, you never know what would be" suggests that the singer is aware of the possibility that the person she is waiting for may not return, but she remains hopeful nonetheless. The use of the phrase "lost and found" also implies a kind of search or quest for something that has been lost, adding to the theme of longing and waiting.

Overall, the song's lyrics are a poignant expression of the complex emotions that come with waiting for someone you love. The slow, melancholic melody adds to the sense of wistfulness and introspection, and Berry's soulful voice communicates the depth of feeling behind the words.

I love the way these guys "get" the "down south" soul in this music. They have big ears, man. I think I am gonna have to move to Europe to play jazz , funk, and soul. It seems these guys appreciate it more than we do now. The crowds for big band and other concerts prove that they have nor regressed artistically as so many Americans have.

The word is "not" regressed. And I am generalizing of course, but referencing the huge crowds that turn up all over the world for Western inspired and Western created music. Many of the great players interpret it so well!
