Help Me Make It Through The Night
Kris Kristofferson Lyrics
Take the ribbon from your hair
Shake it loose and let it fall
Layin' soft upon my skin
Like the shadows on the wall
Come and lay down by my side
Till the early mornin' light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
'Cause tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
I don't care who's right or wrong
I don't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
For tonight I need a friend
Yesterday is dead and gone
And tomorrow's out of sight
And it's sad to be alone
Help me make it through the night
I don't want to be alone
Help me make it through the night

In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in forming the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, and formed a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the Nashville music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing. In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. As an actor, he is known for his roles in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Blume in Love (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star Is Born (1976) (which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), Convoy (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980) and Blade (1998).
Kristofferson has said that he would like the first three lines of Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire" on his tombstone:
Like a bird on the wire
Like a drunk in a midnight choir
I have tried in my way to be free

I played this when I drank too much and started going into withdrawal. I only had to make through the night because I knew the next day I could find relief. I believe it was 1979. I still had many nights to go but it finally ended in 1990.

I've been a heroin addict, alcoholic, crazy on coke and smoke more than 20x my own bodyweight of weed and alcohol by far the worst drug. Been 23yr free of H, 7year of coke, not touched a drop of alcohol in 18month. Just a bit of herb now that I am cutting down on a daily basis. @Freddy Thames Black it's not fair that good people end up suffering so much pain. It's why I struggle so much believing in God. Why would he want his good children to hurt so much? I can't even type this without shedding tears. Please promise me you'll stop digging through the garbage looking for cigarettes butts. It's not worth it friend.

@Michael S. I'm sorry for your pain and I was like a nine year old kid and when my Dad was TDY in Sigon Veitnam 1970 my mom used to talk about suicide and I was afraid to open the door to our house when I walked home from my elementary school....my parents are gone now but, I feel like their spirit are here to help me be safe

@Freddy Thames Black I wish you the best of luck. I'll be in that situation soon enough. I smoke a pack a day, sometimes two. But my feelings behind it is, if I ever get lung cancer or something serious. I'm just going to let it take me. My life has been filled with mostly pain and suffering. An early death for me would be a kindness. I'm already struggling with suicidal thoughts and a prisoner of PTSD. My one and only thing I can find solace in, is my dog. That little picture you see as my profile pic. She is the one thing holding me together. We rescued each other. She was abused and was being over bred. Anyways I'm talking too much. Seriously wish you the best with COPD. And I hope you can get over the hump. Best advice is get candy. When I quit for a couple years when I was still in the Army, candy and gum really helped. Then exercising.

Doesn't matter what corner of popular music you get an opinion on KKs songwriting brilliance, you hear it the same way, he's one of a kind and the lyrics have their own soul to them.

I'm unable to understand why he only had one number 1 song while many other top country artist had 20 - 30 + and even a couple over 40. In my opinion Kris is unsurpassed.
