Music took a back seat for several years, following the death of her teacher/mentor, but at 12 she became interested in rock music and started seeing local bands. At 15 she began a four-year stint as keyboard player with a group. By 17 she was writing songs and at 19 left the band to pursue her own music, focusing on guitar as her instrument of choice.
Barry shaped every facet of "The Beginning, The Middle, The End, " from writing the lyrics, to arranging the instrumental parts and rhythmic approach in her home studio, to bringing in the band for the final recording. "The Beginning..." was recorded in Los Angeles between July and November 1995 and produced by the Robb Brothers (Donovan, The Lemonheads, Buffalo Tom). For the recording Kristen brought in drummer Matt Chamberlain, guitarist Rick DeChurch (who has played with Barry since 1992), and bassist Chris Ballew (on loan from Presidents of the United States of America).
Following the release of her album (along with its sole single "Created") she began to write songs for a second album, debuting them on tour throughout 1996 and 1997.
Her last contribution was "Ordinary Life", which was released on the soundtrack to 1999's Cruel Intentions. She played a few acoustic shows in support of this release before retiring from music to focus on a new career path.

Burned by
The open end of a live wire
Taken under
By a lie
There's only one way under the sky
You look good, good to me
Don't say anything, just breathe
Don't say anything, just breathe
So you want to bury me under your landslide
You ain't gonna get me alive
So you want to bury me under your landslide
It ain't gonna work this time
Little girl
Big pride
The wrong end of a homicide
Made a decision
Not to be afraid
Refused to lie in the bed that you made
You're so pretty
You're so beautiful
I know you wanted me to do it
But under this moon
Under this sky
She ain't gonna let you get away with it this time
So you want to bury me under your landslide
You ain't gonna get me alive
So you want to bury me under your landslide
It ain't gonna work this time
What am
What do
What do you think I am
What do you think I am
So you want to bury me under your landslide
You ain't gonna get me alive
So you want to bury me under your landslide
It ain't gonna work this time
The lyrics to Kristen Barry's song "Big Girl" describe a situation where the singer is being threatened and harassed by someone who wants to bury her under their "landslide." The first verse describes the singer's feelings of being trapped and burned by the situation, but she finds some solace in the other person's appearance. The second verse describes the singer's pride and self-assurance, despite facing a potential homicide. She acknowledges the other person's beauty and their desire to control her, but ultimately decides to fight back.
The chorus repeats the phrase "So you want to bury me under your landslide" and emphasizes that the other person's tactics will not work this time. The final lines of the song ask the other person what they think the singer is, leaving their true motivations and intentions in question.
This song is an empowering anthem for anyone who has faced harassment or intimidation and has decided to stand up for themselves. With a rocking beat and powerful lyrics, "Big Girl" is a song that demands attention and respect.
