Do You Want To Build a Snowman?
Kristen Bell Agatha Lee Mon & Katie Lopez Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Elsa?
Do you want to build a snowman?
Come on let's go and play
I never see you anymore
come out the door
It's like you've gone away
we used to be best buddies
And now we're not
I wish you would tell me why
Do you want to build a snowman?
It doesn't have to be a snowman.
(Elsa: Go Away Anna)
(Ok Bye)
Do you want to build a snowman?
Or ride our bike around the halls?
I think some company is overdue
I've started talking to the pictures on the walls
(Hang in there, Joan!)
It gets a little lonely
All these empty rooms
Just watching the hours tick by
(tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock tick-tock)
...
Elsa?
Please, I know you're in there
People are asking where you've been
They say "have courage", and I'm trying to
I'm right out here for you
Just let me in
We only have eachother
It's just you and me
What are we gonna do?

Do you want to build a snowman?
End

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" depict two sisters, Anna and Elsa, who used to be best friends and love to play together before Elsa's powers became uncontrollable, and she was forced to isolate herself from the world, including her own sister. The song starts with Anna asking Elsa if she wants to play and build a snowman, but Elsa shuts her down and tells her to go away. The song then fast forwards through the years, with Anna singing about how she misses her sister and how lonely it is in the castle without her. She asks Elsa to come out of her room and to let her in so they can be together again. The song ends with the question "Do you want to build a snowman?" as a way of asking Elsa if she wants to reconnect and be sisters again.
