Poison
Kristy Thirsk Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Like a rushing hurricane
And I just sigh
But stuck in the eye
Spinning to destruction
And that's where I laid
When I needed you
I did not care
Fear and jealousy
Always showed their jagged teeth
And I was scared
I'm so sorry that I took so long to come around
I had every poison in my heart so strong
As we read through time
Pain will die
And then our love is bound to grow
Smiles and tears inside
This is life
It's all a part of letting go
I'm so sorry that I took so long to come around
I had every poison in my heart so strong
I'm so thankful that we get to have another chance
You can claim the pieces of my heart, my love
Bar through forward now
Take a vow to leave the past behind
I'm so sorry that I took so long to come around
I had every poison in my heart so strong
I'm so thankful that we get to have another chance
You can claim the pieces of my heart, my love
I'm so sorry that I took so long to come around
I had every poison in my heart so strong
I'm so thankful that we get to have another chance
You can claim the pieces of my heart, my love
The lyrics of Kristy Thirsk's song "Poison" explore the struggles of a relationship that has been marked by fear, jealousy, and misunderstanding. The singer reflects on how, over the years, she allowed these negative emotions to poison her heart and prevent her from truly loving her partner. She expresses regret for not realizing this sooner and laments the fact that she wasted so much time being stuck in a destructive cycle. However, the chorus offers a glimmer of hope, with the singer acknowledging that there is still a chance for them to turn things around and start anew, with a deeper understanding of each other and a commitment to leaving the past behind.
The hurricane metaphor in the first verse is particularly powerful, conveying the sense of chaos and destruction that can arise when negative emotions are left unchecked. The line "stuck in the eye, spinning to destruction" suggests that the singer was unable to see beyond her own pain and was caught up in a whirlwind of hurt and confusion. However, the shift in the chorus, where the focus turns to the possibility of growth and renewal, suggests that there is a way out of this cycle. The final lines, where the singer offers up the pieces of her heart to her partner, are a moving gesture of vulnerability and a recognition that true love requires letting go of one's own defenses and opening oneself up to the other person.
