Krysten Berg, influenced both musically and culturally by her European heritage as well as living in major cultural melting pots such as London, New York and Los Angeles, brings a multi-faceted background to her writing and performing. Having had her first stage appearance at the age of 4 and studying classical music throughout her childhood, she began composing on guitar and later on piano, giving her the opportunity to display her wide range of vocal and musical skills. After graduating from College for the Performing Arts she made a bold move from her native Europe to New York where she honed her craft and paid her dues by becoming an in-demand session singer working alongside top producers and learning how records were made. Moving to London to record her debut album, she worked with accomplished musicians such as Grammy award winner Mike Howlett, Seal bassist Phil Spalding and Pink Floyd percussionist Gary Wallis.
Determined to record more of her own music, she moved back to New York and began working on her US debut "New Moon" with producer Jeff Bova and an eclectic cast of musicians such as guitarist Jeff Golub, drummer Shawn Pelton and percussionist Carol Steele to name a few. She has performed at numerous London and Manhattan hot spots ~ 'The Orange', 'CBGB's Gallery', 'Downtime' and 'Mercury Lounge'. The title song "New Moon" has gotten airplay across the US and Canada and landed in the Top 10 (CMJ). Her song "Falling" is featured in the movie "Shutter" (2008).
Unlike her album "New Moon" which embodied a sense of urgency, written and recorded almost simultaneously, Krysten Berg's latest album "Shades of Blue" has been more of a journey, starting with recordings in London, then New York to the final mixing in Los Angeles. It is being added to radio playlists and continues to gain momentum.
"Shades of Blue" is in stores now, available at iTunes and Amazon worldwide.

The Sound
Krysten Berg Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Sometimes I hear the sound echoing through my mind
Somewhere I hear this voice whispering through the skies
Come follow me to the ocean where time flows into sand,
Where spirits merge with the motion and travel with the wind
Sounds from a northern town calling my name and say -
Come hide with me in the places still untouched by man
Telling tales from the ages that sanctified the land
Sometimes I hear the sound, rhythms from ancient times
Somewhere I hear this song echoing through the night
Somewhere I hear the sound, somewhere I hear the sound
Lights along the shoreline like chips of shimmering glass
Dance with me once again the midsummer night dance
I see you down by the harbor watching the ships go by
Chasing smoke rings like marbles into the northern sky
Sometimes I hear the sound echoing through my mind
Somewhere I hear this voice whispering through the skies
Somewhere I hear the sound, somewhere I hear the sound
Lights along the shoreline are dancing with me ...
In Krysten Berg’s song “The Sound,” the singer describes a feeling of being connected to something greater than themselves. The first stanza expresses that the sound, which could refer to a call or an inner voice, echoes through their mind. The singer hears a voice whispering through the skies, which could allude to a spiritual connection or a call to adventure. The next set of lyrics describe the singer being beckoned to the ocean, where time flows into sand and spirits merge with motion, alluding to the idea of losing oneself in the natural world. The singer is called to follow this voice to places untouched by man and learn from the tales of the ages that sanctified the land.
The song continues with the singer hearing the sound from thousands of miles away. They’re called to a northern town to hide in places where nature is still untouched. The sound originates from ancient rhythms and echoes through the night. The listener is transported to a shore where lights dance like chips of shimmering glass, which could represent the beauty found in nature. The song ends with the singer hearing the sound echoing through their mind once more, calling them to something greater than themselves.
