Biography/Early years:
Kurt Carr was born in the early 1960s in Hartford, Connecticut, where he grew up in a family who believed in Jesus, but was not deeply involved in church. At the age of 13, Kurt found himself being increasingly drawn to the church. In his early teen years, he performed as an actor and dancer at the Hartford Stage Company in a Broadway musical called "On the Town," which was directed by the late Clay Johnson. He became an active member in his church's music department. At the age of 17, he realized that he was being called to do something even higher with his life. After high school, Kurt entered into the music program at the University of Connecticut, where he studied classical music and earned a Fine Arts degree. Carr is a member of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity.
Music Career:
Kurt was Andrae Crouch's piano accompanist for Crouch’s music ministry for one year. After playing there for a year, Rev. James Cleveland hired Carr to be musical director and pianist for Rev. Cleveland’s ministry. He was employed there for seven years until Rev. Cleveland died. Eventually, Carr became director of the West Los Angeles Church of God in Christ Choir, where he had the opportunity to work with both Gospel and Secular musical artists, such as Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, Yolanda Adams, and Kirk Franklin. In 1989 while in Los Angeles, Carr formed a six member vocal ensemble Gospel singers group, called The Kurt Carr Singers. The group has grown to seven members and now includes sopranos Yvette Williams, Nakitta Clegg-Foxx, and Michelle Prather, altos Timiney Figueroa-Caton, Vonnie Lopez, and Nikki Potts, and tenors Troy Bright and Brandon Winbush.
Carr’s music is an interesting blend of traditional Gospel composition and vocals, elements of R&B, jazz, soul, blues, and the distinct modern harmonies and singing styles found in Urban Contemporary Gospel. The Kurt Carr Singers under Kurt Carr’s direction and musical influence have created six albums. Kurt Carr has won four Stellar awards.

Ten Thousand One Million
Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
One million sincere praises
Cannot proclaim how worthy Jesus is to me
Ten thousand sacred anthems
One million sincere praises
Nothing, no one can proclaim how worthy Jesus is
Jesus is to me
One million gorgeous sunsets
Are not more beautiful
(Not more beautiful)
Than Jesus is to me
Ten thousand priceless gold coins
One million flawless diamonds
Nothing, nothing, no one, no one is more beautiful
More valuable than Jesus is to me
No one can sing my Halleluiah
It cost too many tears and pain to let it go
No one can ever sing your praise for me
They don't know what you've done for me
So I'm pouring out my heart to let you know
Ten thousand saints crossed over
One million prostrate angels
They can't cry holy, holy, holy
Lord for me
Ten thousand saints crossed over
One million prostrate angels
Nothing, nothing, no one, no one can cry holy, holy, holy
They can't cry holy
They can't cry holy Lord
Your greatness, your excellent greatness
Can never be measured
Your greatness, your excellent greatness
Can never be measured
You're greater than ten thousand
Greater than one million
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
How great Thou art
In the song "Ten Thousand One Million," Kurt Carr and The Kurt Carr Singers express that no matter how many songs or praises are sung, they cannot fully capture the worthiness of Jesus Christ. The lyrics compare the beauty and value of various earthly things, such as roses and diamonds, to the surpassing beauty and value of Jesus. The song also acknowledges that no one can sing another's Halleluiah, as everyone's journey and experiences with the Lord are unique.
The first verse highlights the inadequacy of even thousands of sacred anthems and millions of sincere praises to declare the worth of Jesus, emphasizing the surpassing nature of His worthiness. The second verse continues this theme by noting that even the most beautiful and valuable things in the world, such as roses and diamonds, pale in comparison to the beauty of Jesus. The third verse suggests that no one can sing a person's individual Halleluiah or fully understand what Jesus has done for them, emphasizing the unique and personal nature of one's relationship with the Lord.
The song reaches a climax in the bridge, declaring the greatness and excellent greatness of Jesus that can never be measured. This culminates in the repetition of the phrase "How great Thou art," echoing the classic hymn of the same name and affirming the boundless greatness of Jesus Christ.
