Come Back Home
Kutless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
How long till the freedom weighs you down
How long till your heart figures out that you need me
How long until you turn around
When you come back home
I’ll be running out to meet you
When you come back home
You’ll see every wrong turn every bridge you’ve burned
It’s all forgiven and gone
When you come back home
When you come back home
I wanna see that face that I’ve been missing so much
I want to wrap my arms around your neck
I want to welcome you back to the place where you belong
I want to show you love has never left
I’ve paid the price so have no fear
There’s nothing but mercy here yeah
Mercy is waiting
When you come back home
The lyrics to Kutless's song Come Back Home have a strong emotional depth that revolves around a central theme of longing and forgiveness. The opening line of "How long till you come to the end of your reckless streak" is a plea to someone who is lost and wandering, likely with a destructive lifestyle. They are wondering when this person will wake up and realize that they need to change their ways. The next line, "How long till the freedom weighs you down," is an acknowledgement that while freedom can be liberating, it can become a burden when it is pursued recklessly.
The third line, "How long till your heart figures out that you need me," feels like the singer's plea to be reunited with the lost person. The phrasing indicates that the person being spoken to does not yet recognize their need for the singer. The final line of the chorus, "How long until you turn around," is a statement of impatience and longing, and an urging for the person to come back home.
The lyrics of the verses also convey a strong sense of longing and welcome for the lost person. The singer wants to wrap their arms around their neck and welcome them back to where they belong. The chorus reinforces this idea with its emphasis on forgiveness and mercy.
Overall, the lyrics convey a strong sense of emotion and longing, as well as a desire for forgiveness and redemption.
