Draw Me Close
Kutless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Never let me go.
I'd lay it all down again
To hear You say that I'm Your friend.
Help me find a way to bring me back to You.
You're all I want.
You're all I want.
Help me know You are near.
You are my desire.
No one else will do.
'Cause nothing else could take Your place
To feel the warmth of Your embrace.
Help me find a way to bring me back to You.
You're all I want.
You're all I've ever needed.
You're all I want.
Help me know You are near
Kutless's song "Draw Me Close" is a moving and powerful Christian worship song that emphasizes the need for a relationship with God. The song begins with the singer's plea to be drawn closer to God, asking to never be let go. The song then moves to a confession of the singer's willingness to lay everything down to hear God call him/her a friend, highlighting the importance of fellowship with God. The singer then asks God to help him/her find a way to get back to God's presence. The chorus repeats the theme of God being all that the singer wants and needs, with a final plea for God to help the singer feel His presence.
The song speaks to the deep longing that many believers have for a personal relationship with their Creator. The desire to be close to God, to feel His love and to hear His voice is universal amongst believers, and this song articulates that beautifully. The lyrics express a yearning that comes from the depth of the human heart, and they explicitly ask God to help believers find their way back to Him. The chorus declares that God is all that the singer wants and needs, and this reinforces the idea that a relationship with God is the most important thing in life.
It's interesting to note that "Draw Me Close" was written by Kelly Carpenter, a worship leader from California. The song was first recorded by the Vineyard Music Group in 1994 and quickly became a popular worship song in churches throughout the world. Since then, it has been covered by many artists and featured on countless CDs and compilations. Interestingly, Kutless is a Christian rock band, and their version of the song features a slightly more upbeat tempo and rock instrumentation.
