God Rest My Soul
Kutless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There's a place where every heavy heart
Can find the strength to stand, here I am.
You're my only hope, my solid ground,
Always faithful and forever God, to You alone I bow,
Here I am, here I am
God rest my soul, I lay me down,
Oh to die and rise with Christ alone,
Take my life, God rest my soul
On a lonely hill You were lifted high,
Oh the wonder of Your sacrifice it overwhelms my life,
Here I am, here I am.
You have overcome every enemy,
Even death has lost its grip on me, I stand in victory
God rest my soul, I lay me down,
To lose myself in the grace I've found,
Oh to die and rise with Christ alone,
Take my life, God rest my soul
I surrender, surrender,
I surrender,
Jesus, I surrender, surrender,
I surrender.
God rest my soul, I lay me down,
To lose myself in the grace I've found,
Oh to die and rise with Christ alone,
Take my life, God rest my soul
Oh, I lay me down,
To lose myself in the grace I've found,
Oh to die and rise with Christ alone,
Take my life, God rest my soul
The lyrics of Kutless's song "God Rest My Soul" speak of finding rest and strength in God, especially in times of exhaustion, defeat, and inner turmoil. The song begins with acknowledging that at the end of the day, after all the striving and struggles, there is a place where hearts can find peace and hope. The singer recognizes that God is the only one who can provide him with stability and unflinching trustworthiness. Therefore, he bows down to God and surrenders his life to Him fully. The chorus of the song stresses the idea of laying down one's burdens and finding freedom and salvation in the grace of God, which is the ultimate goal of the Christian faith. The bridge of the song references Jesus's sacrifice on the cross, which is the reason for the singer's hope and joy, and the source of his victory over death and sin.
The song's lyrics address the heart's longing for stability and rest in God, the need for surrendering to His will, and the assurance of eternal life through Jesus's sacrifice. The message of the song is simple yet profound, emphasizing the importance of faith, humility, and trust in God. The music of the song is equally powerful, with its rocking guitar riffs, catchy melody, and heartfelt vocals that evoke a sense of worship and intimacy with God.

Me too, and I'm not a fan of Contemporary Christian music. I like the old stuff. Were it not for Captain Seth Keshel, I'd never have heard this song. I'm glad to have experienced it. :)
