Mistakes
Kutless Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Excuses do not hold
I'm stuck with my affliction
An inner perfect storm
Why didn't someone warn me
To save me from myself
The pain is self-inflicted
The decisions were my own
[Chorus]
There's so much I could say
There's so much that I've learned
Don't make my mistake
There's no time to delay
Take my hand and learn from my heartache
Take a look into the past
See all the things I've tried
Looking for a truth inside
But only finding pain
See these deep and painful scars
Cutting to the bone
Do you want to look like me
With a broken empty life
Some things you may never understand
But knowledge from lessons not your own
Can save you from the unknown
Which may stop your fall
The lyrics to Kutless's song Mistakes speak to the regret and pain experienced by the singer as a result of their own choices and actions. The first verse acknowledges that excuses for past mistakes are useless, and the singer is grappling with their own inner turmoil. The regret in the lyrics is palpable as the singer questions why someone didn't warn them and save them from themselves. The pain they are experiencing is entirely self-inflicted, and the consequences of their decisions are undeniable. The chorus urges the listener not to repeat the same mistakes, reminding them that there is much to be learned from the singer's heartache.
The second verse of the song takes the listener on a journey through the singer's attempts to find truth and meaning in their life. Unfortunately, these attempts only led to more pain and suffering. The scars the singer bears cut deep, serving as a reminder of their mistakes and failures. The final lines of the verse ask a poignant question: do you want to end up like the singer, broken and empty?
Overall, the lyrics to Mistakes highlight the importance of learning from past failures and avoiding repeating the same mistakes. The singer's pain serves as a cautionary tale, urging the listener to take a different path before it's too late.
