Kvelertak were formed in Stavanger, Norway in 2007. The band's name is the Norwegian for "stranglehold" or "chokehold". A demo, Westcoast Holocaust, was self-released that year. The band released their debut album, entitled Kvelertak, on June 21, 2010 via the Norwegian record label Indie Recordings, and on March 15 via The End Records in North America. The album was certified gold by IFPI in Norway for selling over 15,000 copies.
In March 2011, Kvelertak were presented with two Spellemannprisen Awards, a prestigious Norwegian music award similar to the American Grammy Award—for Best Newcomer and Best Rock Band. The Kvelertak song "Mjød" was used as the end music for the film The Troll Hunter.
The second album, Meir, was released in March 2013. The band's third studio album, titled Nattesferd, was released on May 13, 2016. Their fourth studio album, Splid, was released on February 14th, 2020, their first with Ivar Nikolaisen on lead vocals.

Helvete!!
Legg på sprang!
Våre sko, e jævlig bra sko.
Dei skyte gull, det e bare tull.
For vi skal meir!
Ka skal vi me gull då?
Kor e ståva no!? (Kor e ståva nå?)
Ej veit ikkje kaså skjer!!?
Åhhh!!
Du må springa før livet kjem å tar deg igjen!
Du ekje bruk-andes før du blir far!
Me må komme oss heim til ungane igjen!!
Og du må komme oss heim til ungane!
Du må springe før livet kjem å tek dej igjen!
Vi skyte på trass!
Springe fast! Du må forstå!
Det e alt du får!
Vi kankje ha ei lave kraft,
då e det ingenting å ta!
Ej e store no!
Det e ingenting, ej drite i, kaso skjer!!
Ej fucka opp med ongane!
Kor e ståva no!? (kor e ståva no?)
Du må springa før livet kjem å tar deg igjen!
Du ekje brukandes før du blir far!
Me må komme oss heim til ungane igjen!!
Og du må komme oss heim til Ungane!
Du må springe før livet kjem å tek dej igjen!
The song "Spring Fra Livet" by Kvelertak is a fast-paced and high-energy track about running towards the uncertainties of the future. The opening lines of "OUH! Helvete!! Legg på sprang! Våre sko, e jævlig bra sko" signify an urgent call to action to start running as fast as possible. The singer emphasizes the importance of the shoes they are wearing, possibly to suggest that they need good equipment to prepare for the hardships ahead. The line "Dei skyte gull, det e bare tull" is a sarcastic comment about those who believe that material wealth brings happiness and fulfillment.
The lyrics suggest a desperation to escape from the monotony of life and to seek new experiences. The repeated question "Ka skal vi me gull då?" (What are we going to do with gold?) further emphasizes the point that material possessions are meaningless in the grand scheme of things. The singer seems to be questioning the purpose of chasing after material gains while the rest of life goes by. The lines "Du må springa før livet kjem å tar deg igjen!" (You must run before life catches up with you!) call for the need to escape from the danger of stagnation and boredom.
Overall, "Spring Fra Livet" is a high-energy and introspective song that urges the listener to break free from the monotony of daily life and seek new experiences before it is too late.
