Cut Your Teeth
Kyla La Grange Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Didn't I warn you not to?
Didn't I warn you good?
Maybe we couldn't help it
Maybe we never should

Didn't I say it slowly?
Didn't I make it clear?
Is it unfair to ask you?
Why it is you're still here?

You cut your teeth on the lack of answers, singing
Come back home and it don't feel the same
Well I've bled words onto a page for you
And you never knew my name

Didn't I make it harder?
Didn't I leave you that?
Was it too much to ask you?
Why it is you still care?

You cut your teeth on the lack of answers, singing
Come back home and it don't feel the same
Well I've bled words onto a page for you
And you never knew my name

You cut your teeth on the lack of answers, singing
Come back home and it don't feel the same

Well I've bled words onto a page for you
And you never knew my name

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Kyla La Grange's "Cut Your Teeth" seem to be about a relationship that has ended or is ending, and the frustration that stems from the lack of understanding or closure. The singer seems to be questioning why the other person is still here, even though they were warned about the potential problems in their relationship. Perhaps they were warned about their lack of communication, or about the fact that one or both of them were not fully invested.

The lyrics "You cut your teeth on the lack of answers, singing/Come back home and it don't feel the same" suggest that the other person has been using their struggles and confusion as a source of material for their own creativity. The singer feels used, as though they have been bled dry by the other person's artistic pursuits without receiving any recognition or acknowledgement for their role in inspiring them.

The repetition of the chorus, "You cut your teeth on the lack of answers, singing/Come back home and it don't feel the same/Well I've bled words onto a page for you/And you never knew my name," reinforces the idea that the other person has been taking advantage of the singer's emotional vulnerability without giving anything in return. The singer feels drained and disillusioned, and wonders why they were ever in this relationship to begin with.

I don't know either but it's not necessarily a bad thing. When a singer really makes it, music usually starts to get boring. Remember what happened to Metallica for example. Staying indie instead means that you can do what you please with your music.

Dean Daniel Her lyrics are really deep if you read them carefully, definitely not the usual poppy stuff
