Born in Connecticut and raised in Coral Springs, Florida, Dion comes from a musical background; his father is a rapper and his maternal grandfather was a well-known Portuguese singer. Music was his passion and focus from a young age and after being featured on Kehlani's 2014 mixtape Cloud Nineteen, he relocated to Los Angeles. Within L.A.'s vibrant scene, he found his footing, and released the 2016 EP Painting Sounds. Presenting a bright panoply of pop, R&B, funk, and soul, Dion spent the next three years issuing eclectic, catchy singles like "Baby Esther" and the falsetto-heavy ballad "Brown," the latter of which became the heavily streamed standout of his 2019 debut album Suga. Appearing two years later, his full-length follow-up, Sassy, embraced his playful, fun-loving attitude. 2022 saw Dion team up with Zimbabwean-Australian rapper Tkay Maidza on the slinky single "Hazy."
On Fire

All the glory that comes from success here
I'm sorry, words tumble from my mouth
I don't mean a thing, I mean everything
Colombiana, bring my cake up by the pound (By the pound)
Watch the sky with you as it crumbles down
Gon' be some shit when all them shots are ringing out
Somebody say "Ooh" (Oh my, the world's comin' down)
Oh, it's on your television, uh, uh, uh
But get away safe, uh, uh
Somebody say "Ooh, the sky"
Light another fire, burn a couple bridges
You can't hide from it (You can't hide from it)
You can try to get (You can try to get)
So high, light another fire, burn a couple bridges
You can't run from it, uh, even under it
On fire, on fire
"How much has success changed you?
How different do you feel?"
Let me tell you like this, you listenin'?
Success doesn't change someone
In this industry, you can have all the success you want
What changes someone is the fame
The fame can get you a whole lot of shit, baby
Success can get you some shit but fame can get you some shit
You know what I'm talkin' 'bout?
You wake up and suddenly everybody wanna be around you
Nobody's tellin' you no
You know everybody want a piece
Course that shit's gonna change you
The lyrics to Kyle Dion's song 'On Fire' depict the complex personal feelings of an individual who is experiencing both success and fame. The chorus reveals a sense of invincibility spurred by success as the singer talks about burning down bridges and watching the world crumble while still being on fire. However, he also acknowledges the potential dangers of fame, as the world feels like it is coming down with shots ringing out. The singer, though confident in his success, craves the glory associated with it, and the foreign term "Colombiana" used in the verse could represent a material token, like a Colombian emerald, for his success.
Moreover, the breakdown in communication due to fame is also a significant theme in the song. The dialogue in the third verse implies that the artist felt disconnected from his sense of self, with people no longer telling him "no" and everyone wanting a piece of him. He also expresses the view that it's the fame that changes a person and not the success alone. The chorus, which resurfaces frequently throughout the song, further highlights the overarching theme of success and the way it changes a person.
In summary, 'On Fire' offers a nuanced depiction of the complexities of success and fame, their seductive qualities as well as their consequences.
