I would elaborate a little bit more on this.

When you lose a tooth there’s some permanent options have in order to replace a tooth for example you can get an implant, a 3 unit bridge and a partial. Now if you’re looking for a fixed tooth replacement meaning you want it to stay in place you have the implant and the bridge. And implant is when they prep the bone using a specific set of drills in which helps the doctor place the implant portion. After this implant heals for 3-4 months ( depending if you had a sinus lift or bone graft this can take up to 6 months of healing) you will then get the crown portion that goes on top of the implant now it does not have to be gold. Although gold is an amazing restorative material in the dental world and is also very biocompatible you can also get a Zirconia crown. Zirconia crowns can be more esthetic pleasing when applying ceramics in which will then make your new fake tooth look more natural if done by the right dental lab. Then you have the option of the bridge. The bridge is when your tooth adjacent teeth ( teeth that are next to the one that was removed) are prepped to have enough material space and also have good mechanical retention. When the teeth are prepped the doctor then takes a digital impression or an old school mold impression and then the lab creates your new 3 unit teeth that are milled together meaning is 3 teeth in 1 prosthesis. You can also have these teeth in gold, zirconia, PFM, PFZ and emax which are all different types of materials used for dental prosthesis

As a dental assistant I completely agree all the patients I’ve seen that come in with crowns off are always regular crowns either pfm’s zirconias etc.. never gold I’ve seen 80+ yr old patients with all their gold crowns still intact and looking like shiny brand new.. I’ve already decided if I ever need a crown in any of my molars I’m going with gold
