Born and raised in Melbourne, Minogue first achieved recognition starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, playing tomboy mechanic Charlene Robinson. She gained prominence as a recording artist in the late 1980s and released four bubblegum and dance-pop-influenced studio albums produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. By the early 1990s, she had amassed several top ten singles in the UK and Australia, including "I Should Be So Lucky", "The Loco-Motion", "Hand on Your Heart", and "Better the Devil You Know". Taking more creative control over her music, Minogue signed with Deconstruction Records in 1993 and released Kylie Minogue (1994) and Impossible Princess (1997), both of which received positive reviews. She returned to mainstream dance-oriented music with 2000's Light Years, including the number-one hits "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This". The follow-up, Fever (2001), was an international breakthrough for Minogue, becoming her best-selling album to date. Two of its singles, "Love at First Sight" and "In Your Eyes", became hits, but its lead single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" became one of the most successful singles of the 2000s, selling over five million units.
Minogue continued reinventing her image and experimenting with a range of genres on her subsequent albums, which spawned successful singles such as "Slow", "2 Hearts", "All the Lovers", "Santa Baby", "Timebomb" and "Dancing". With her 2020 album DISCO, she became the first female artist to have a chart-topping album in the UK for five consecutive decades. Minogue made her film debut in The Delinquents (1989) and portrayed Cammy in Street Fighter (1994). She has also appeared in the films Moulin Rouge! (2001), Jack & Diane, Holy Motors (2012) and San Andreas (2015). In 2014, she appeared as a judge on the third series of The Voice UK and The Voice Australia. Her other ventures include product endorsements, children's books, fashion, and charitable work.
Minogue was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 New Year Honours for services to music. She was appointed by the French government as a Chevalier (knight) of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her contribution to the enrichment of French culture. In 2005, while Minogue was on tour, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) degree by Anglia Ruskin University in 2011 for her work in raising awareness for breast cancer. At the 2011 ARIA Music Awards, she was inducted by the Australian Recording Industry Association into the ARIA Hall of Fame. She was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Australia Day Honours.

I opened my too quick and all my dreams
Were woken up, I slowly lost my fire
With every single man, a river cried
I had no sensation
Completely numb, left with no satisfaction
I thought no one could ever get me high again
I swear, I was not looking
Oh, waited so long
I thought the real thing was a fake
I thought it was a tool to break me down
You proved me wrong again
If love were liquid it would drown me
In a placeless place would find me
In a heart shape come around me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were human, it would know me
In a lost space, come and show me
Hold me and control me
And then melt me slowly down
Like chocolate
Tastes so good
My heart's been mended
Who'd have thought it would?
An empty bet and still I won the cash
A man who I love and who loves me back
Oh, waited so long
For love to heal me so I'd feel it
Thought it wasn't breathing, then you came
You proved me wrong again
If love were liquid it would drown me
In a placeless place would find me
In a heart shape come around me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were human, it would know me
In a lost space, come and show me
Hold me and control me
And then melt me slowly down
Like chocolate
If love were liquid it would drown me
In a placeless place would find me
In a heart shape come around me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were human, it would know me
In a lost space, come and show me (show me)
Hold me and control me
And then melt me slowly down
Like chocolate, come here
Zoom in, catch the smile
There's no doubt it's from you
And I'm addicted to it now
Just one look, boy, to melt me down
Just one heart here to save me now
Your candy kisses are sweet, I know
Hold me tight, baby, don't let go
Just one look, boy, to melt me down
Just one heart here to save me now
Your candy kisses are sweet, I know
Hold me tight, baby, don't let go (ooh, like chocolate)
Just one look, boy, to melt me down
Just one heart here to save me now
Your candy kisses are sweet, I know (ooh)
Hold me tight, baby, don't let go (oh)
Just one look, boy, to melt me down
Just one heart here to save me now
Your candy kisses are sweet, I know (if love were liquid)
Hold me tight, baby, don't let go
If love were liquid it would drown me
In a placeless place would find me
In a heart shape come around me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were human, it would know me
In a lost space, come and show me
Hold me and control me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were liquid it would drown me
In a placeless place would find me
In a heart shape come around me
And then melt me slowly down
If love were human, it would know me
In a lost space, come and show me
Hold me and control me
And then melt me slowly down
Like chocolate
The song "Chocolate" by Kylie Minogue is a love song that speaks of the pain of heartbreak, the longing for love, and finally finding it. The opening lines of the song refer to fragile seams, which could be interpreted as the fragile threads of a heart that are easily broken. When the singer opened herself up to love too quickly, her dreams were shattered, leaving her feeling numb and unsatisfied. However, despite this pain, she never gave up on finding true love. The second verse talks about the singer's skepticism about falling in love again, but then she meets someone who proves her wrong and helps her heal.
The chorus of the song is filled with metaphors about love being compared to chocolate. The lines "If love were liquid it would drown me / In a heart shape come around me / And then melt me slowly down" suggest that love can be all-consuming, surrounding us and melting away our defenses. The comparison to chocolate is particularly evocative because it is a commonly associated with pleasure and decadence.
In the bridge of the song, the singer addresses her love directly, calling him "boy" and asking him to hold her tight and not let go. She acknowledges that his love is like candy, sweet and addictive. The repetition of the chorus throughout the song reinforces the idea that love is an intense and powerful force that can consume and transform us.
