Born and raised in Melbourne, Minogue first achieved recognition starring in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, playing tomboy mechanic Charlene Robinson. She gained prominence as a recording artist in the late 1980s and released four bubblegum and dance-pop-influenced studio albums produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. By the early 1990s, she had amassed several top ten singles in the UK and Australia, including "I Should Be So Lucky", "The Loco-Motion", "Hand on Your Heart", and "Better the Devil You Know". Taking more creative control over her music, Minogue signed with Deconstruction Records in 1993 and released Kylie Minogue (1994) and Impossible Princess (1997), both of which received positive reviews. She returned to mainstream dance-oriented music with 2000's Light Years, including the number-one hits "Spinning Around" and "On a Night Like This". The follow-up, Fever (2001), was an international breakthrough for Minogue, becoming her best-selling album to date. Two of its singles, "Love at First Sight" and "In Your Eyes", became hits, but its lead single, "Can't Get You Out of My Head" became one of the most successful singles of the 2000s, selling over five million units.
Minogue continued reinventing her image and experimenting with a range of genres on her subsequent albums, which spawned successful singles such as "Slow", "2 Hearts", "All the Lovers", "Santa Baby", "Timebomb" and "Dancing". With her 2020 album DISCO, she became the first female artist to have a chart-topping album in the UK for five consecutive decades. Minogue made her film debut in The Delinquents (1989) and portrayed Cammy in Street Fighter (1994). She has also appeared in the films Moulin Rouge! (2001), Jack & Diane, Holy Motors (2012) and San Andreas (2015). In 2014, she appeared as a judge on the third series of The Voice UK and The Voice Australia. Her other ventures include product endorsements, children's books, fashion, and charitable work.
Minogue was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2008 New Year Honours for services to music. She was appointed by the French government as a Chevalier (knight) of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres for her contribution to the enrichment of French culture. In 2005, while Minogue was on tour, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Health Science (D.H.Sc.) degree by Anglia Ruskin University in 2011 for her work in raising awareness for breast cancer. At the 2011 ARIA Music Awards, she was inducted by the Australian Recording Industry Association into the ARIA Hall of Fame. She was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in the 2019 Australia Day Honours.

It's like a shock-wave to my brain
To get it together
I have a head full to explain
It gives me funny feeling
I've gotta find out if it's true
I'll give you the answer, baby
I don't know what we're going through
It's too much
It's too much
[Chorus]
It's too much--this kind of love
For the first time
For the first time
It's way too much--this kind of love
Not the last time
Not the last time
When you read my body
Can you touch my mind?
Will we make it happen
Each and every time?
They say it doesn't happen
But lighting struck twice
First one got me hot
The next was cold, but nice
Push me to the brim
And you fill me to the brink
I can't function
I can't think--it's too much
[Chorus: x2]
(Can't say what I feel)
Can't say
Can't say what it is
If I say what I feel, it's too much
Can't say
Can't say what it is
If I say what I feel, it's too much
Can't say
Can't say what it is
If I say what I feel, it's too much
Can't say
Can't say what it is
[Chorus: x2]
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
In 'Too Much', Kylie Minogue wants to find out whether her love interest is genuine or not. She admits that their connection gives her a funny feeling, which she has to explore further to understand. She feels the pull of attraction and the need to be with this person, but at the same time, the intensity of her emotions scares her. The chorus of the song centers around the notion that the love she's feeling is too much, both for the first time and not the last time.
She questions whether her lover can connect with her both physically and mentally, ultimately questioning if they will be able to make their connection work. While some relationships aren't meant to be, she acknowledges that lightning can strike twice and that even if this one doesn't work out, there will be others in the future. Kylie is honest about the fact that the intensity of the feelings is overwhelming, leaving her unable to function or even think properly.
In summary, the song is an exploration of the intense emotions and feelings that come with a new and passionate love. Kylie is scared about the strength of these emotions but is also willing to explore them in search of something real.

Got to have it
I need it
It's like a shock-wave to my brain
It affects me deeply
To get it together
To make sense of it
I have a head full to explain
I have many thoughts to express
It gives me funny feeling
It makes me feel unusual
I've gotta find out if it's true
I need to know if it's real
I'll give you the answer, baby
I'll let you know
I don't know what we're going through
I'm uncertain about our situation
It's too much
It's overwhelming
It's too much
It's too intense
It's too much--this kind of love
This love is too much for me to handle
For the first time
It's the first time I'm experiencing this
For the first time
It's new to me
It's way too much--this kind of love
This love is too extreme
Not the last time
It won't be the last time I feel this way
Not the last time
It's going to happen again
When you read my body
When you understand my physical cues
Can you touch my mind?
Can you comprehend my thoughts
Will we make it happen
Can we make it work?
Each and every time?
Every time we try?
They say it doesn't happen
People say it doesn't exist
But lighting struck twice
But I experienced it twice
First one got me hot
The first one made me excited
The next was cold, but nice
The second one was less intense, but pleasurable
Push me to the brim
Go to the limit
And you fill me to the brink
And you make me feel complete
I can't function
I can't operate normally
I can't think--it's too much
It's too overwhelming for me to think
(Can't say what I feel)
(I can't express my emotions)
Can't say
I'm unable to tell you
Can't say what it is
I can't describe it
If I say what I feel, it's too much
If I express my emotions, it's too intense
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
(My feelings for you are too extreme)
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
(My emotions for you are too intense)
(The way I feel about you--it's too much)
(My love for you is too overwhelming)
