Solsbury Hill
Kyte Lyrics

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill
I could see the city light
Wind was blowing, time stood still
Eagle flew out of the night
He was something to observe
Came in close, I heard a voice
Standing stretching every nerve
Had to listen had no choice
I did not believe the information
I just had to trust imagination
My heart going ………….
"Son," he said "Grab your things,
I've come to take you home."

To keep in silence I resigned
My friends would think I was a nut
Turning water into wine
Open doors would soon be shut
So I went from day to day
Tho' my life was in a rut
"Till I thought of what I'd say
Which connection I should cut
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going ………….
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
(Back home.)

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette

I will show another me
My heart going ………….

Overall Meaning

Climbing up on Solsbury Hill is a song that tells a story of a man's personal journey towards enlightenment. The singer, while perched on top of Solsbury Hill, observes the city and the wind, with the night sky illuminated by city lights. Suddenly, an eagle emerges from the darkness, and the man is in awe of it. The eagle flies closer to him, and the man hears a voice telling him to stretch himself to his limits, to listen more to his intuition, even when things seem unbelievable. The voice then says, "Son, grab your things, I've come to take you home," which is interpreted as the call of spiritual enlightenment.

The man then struggles with the message he has received. He keeps it to himself, realizing that people will think he's crazy if he shares it with them. He feels a deep connection to his inner self and the universe around him, but he can't find a way to break free from his mundane, routine life. He has a personal awakening, discovering that he is just another cog in the reckless and oppressive society he lives in. But even with this revelation, he does not know how to make the necessary changes to his life. The song's climax occurs when he resolves to cast aside his hesitations and take a leap of faith to his new reality.
