The first stanza of the song talks about how the singer's headache disappears after taking medication. However, the effects of the medicine are so strong that the singer doesn't feel any pain even if they were to stab themselves with a fork or step on glass. Despite being unable to feel their own pain, the singer is afraid of the tears shed by the person they are singing to.

In the second stanza, the singer reveals that they fear they will be killed in the city they reside in, perhaps by the smiling proprietress of a public bathhouse. The singer goes on to say that if the person they are addressing, whom they are afraid of, would hate them enough to hit them without reservation, they would pack up and head south. This is because the king's dance is starting in the south, and one day, the singer wishes to live in that southern country and dance with the king.
