Today
L'Aura Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Today get your cinnamon and pray
For the beauty of our land and
For the secrets, for the moments
That we use to share
Leather, covers, broken glasses,
Playing music and the rain,
Spinning around, swimming, jumping
In a world of sound, you are always
In my favourite dreams,
Lovely, tender and proud
You may be
Running around, searching, looking for something
To find while I'm still here waiting for you,
Do you see me at all my sweet sweet sweet love?
Today there is nothing left to say
Today there is nothing left to say
We all know that
Just a word can break as into pieces
So that we cannot forget
Leather, covers, broken glasses,
Playing music and the rain,
Airplanes, morbid phrases turning into dust
Spinning around, swimming, jumping
In a world of sounds
You are always in my favourite dreams,
Lovely tender and proud
You may be
Running around searching, looking for something
To find while I'm still here waiting for you,
Do you see me at all my sweet love?
Black and white photographs,
Dirty clothes, two guitars
Dirty clothes, two guitars…
Spinning around, swimming, jumping
In a world of sounds you are always in my favourite
Dreams, lovely tender and proud
You may be
Running around searching, looking for something to find
While I'm still here waiting for you
Do you see me at all my sweet sweet sweet love?
The song "Today" by L'Aura begins with the command to “get your cinnamon and pray.” The lyrics could be interpreted as a call for spiritual growth and connection to the world around us. The cinnamon may symbolize something pure and wholesome while the act of praying is a way to connect with a higher power. The song goes on to talk about the beauty of the land and the secrets and moments that we share. The imagery used throughout the song is abstract and dreamlike, with broken glasses and morbid phrases turning into dust. These might represent past experiences that no longer hold any weight or significance. The refrain repeats the line “You may be running around searching, looking for something to find while I’m still here waiting for you,” suggesting a longing for a connection that has yet to be fulfilled.
The second half of the song takes on a nostalgic tone, with references to black and white photographs, dirty clothes, and two guitars. The repetition of the phrase “dirty clothes, two guitars” adds a sense of familiarity and comfort, as though these are the constants in the singer’s life. The final refrain repeats the lines “Do you see me at all my sweet sweet sweet love?,” emphasizing the desire for a deeper relationship with the person being addressed. Overall, the song has a wistful and melancholic feel, with a focus on the fleeting nature of time and the importance of spiritual and emotional connections.
