Running
L.A.B. Lyrics

Shoes for running, and I'll race ya
Sun is coming, it'll chase ya
Through this dead beat town
Through this dead beat town
The end is coming, I would race ya
But there's no running, it'll chase ya
Death will hunt you down
Death will hunt you down

What about the people that's barefoot
With no shoes for running when the sun come up?
Hey one percenters, the 99 say what you gonna do for us?
We'll run up in your house like the first runner up
Be the first one to buck and the last one to get laid down, stay down
And now we're looking at the top of the pile
Or the king of the mountain gonna knock him off
Revolt, but y'all niggas here too soft
Bubblegum, just popping off
At the mouth like the nigga got all the hoes
Got all the dough and all the women
Boy, what you gon' do in the penitentiary
Got a lot of money, can't take it with me
I can't take it with me, I wish they could send me
To the moon and back with a cure for cancer
And save the lives of my great grandmama and my great grandaddy
Now that's the answer to the question
But they make money of the medicine
Leaving us all stuck in elections
With no progressions, just recessions

Shoes for running, and I'll race ya
Sun is coming, it'll chase ya
Through this dead beat town
Through this dead beat town
The end is coming, I would race ya
But there's no running, it'll chase ya
Death will hunt you down
Death will hunt you down

Just as I expected, life gets deadly
It's funny how the beloved become the beheaded
The truth can be independent or the direction that you stretch it
So my niggas will draw when shit gets sketchy
That's a masterpiece, a work of art
A gallery, not Photoshop
Pictures say a million words, so I just let my photos talk
Even in your local talk, niggas say you know he boss
Every time my name is brought up better know it's mogul talk
That's why she give me geek 'till her shins weak
I'm blazing everyday, you can call that demp week
You're running from your life that you didn't see
That's like playing hide and seek with the grim reaper

Shoes for running, and I'll race ya
Sun is coming, it'll chase ya
Through this dead beat town
Through this dead beat town
The end is coming, I would race ya
But there's no running, it'll chase ya
Death will hunt you down
Death will hunt you down

You can run, but you can't hide
Spent your whole life trying to escape
When everybody stayed
Getting tired of living in a lie
Different nights, same town
Say goodbyes, but we tried
Cause we know there's no getting out
And when the pawns are playing themselves
I just lay and wait and straighten myself
(?) to the rhythm sells out
Bring them back to life, give them mouth to mouth

Shoes for running, and I'll race ya
Sun is coming, it'll chase ya
Through this dead beat town
Through this dead beat town
The end is coming, I would race ya
But there's no running, it'll chase ya
Death will hunt you down
Death will hunt you down

You can fight and try to get away
But there's no way to run and hide to

You better know that there will come a day
Eventually it's gonna find you

Overall Meaning

The song "Running" by L.A.B. is a reflection of the reality of life and death. The lyrics depict the idea of trying to escape from the end, but it is inevitable. The chorus is repetitive and has a sense of urgency, urging the listener to keep running and to escape death, but the reality is that death will eventually catch up. The lyrics in the chorus, "Shoes for running, and I'll race ya, Sun is coming, it'll chase ya, Through this dead beat town" talks about running away from death, but death is chasing and will eventually catch up.

The first verse focuses on the reality of life for people who don't have much, and how they don't have shoes to run away from their problems. It talks about the divide between the one percenters and the 99 percent who don't have the same opportunities. The verse suggests a revolution, but people are too soft, and the ones in charge continue to make money off of the medicine, leaving people stuck in a cycle of recessions.

The second verse highlights the idea of life being unpredictable and full of risks. The lyrics suggest that in life, one needs to be prepared to face any challenges by being ready to draw when sketchy situations arise. The lyrics suggest that life is like a masterpiece, and each day is an opportunity to create something new. The verse concludes with a message that running away from death is pointless because it will eventually find everyone.

Overall, the song is a reminder to live life to its fullest and to be prepared for any challenges that come along the way. Whether we run or not, death is inevitable, and it is important to live each day to the fullest, create something new with each passing day, and prepare ourselves to face the risks of life.

Had my near-death motorcycle accident here in New Zealand in 1990 when I was 26. Ultimately I lost my entire left leg as high up as hip and left side of my pelvis plus I suffered several other internal injuries as well. V fortunate to survive. Spent 3 weeks in the Intensive Care Unit of 2 hospitals and 101 days in total. Ever since I have suffered stump nerve pain around the area amputated and the intensity & frequency is sometimes extreme. Short story is this; I wouldn't want my worst enemy to endure this pain. Lesson is this; If you wanna race, do it in a controlled area such as a track. Now to L.A.B. LOVE this group. At the time of my accident I was an athlete. Road cyclist, biathlete, triathlete, and marathon runner. My first love in sport was always running. I completed a Marathon with a friend at the age of 15 in 1979. We ran all the wat together as he had challenged me to do it and I never backed out of a challenge. I went on to complete another 5 Marathons on 2 legs and 1o half Marathons on 2 legs. As an amputee athlete I completed 6 half Marathons and 6 full Marathons on crutches on my one good right leg - I was the first leg amputee to complete a half and full Marathon on crutches on one good right leg in the WORLD. I went on to set the World's fastest half and full Marathon on crutches on one leg in 1994. My times remained unbeaten for 19 years until an amputee who used 'doped' crutches beat it - he used spring loaded shock absorbers in the tubes while I used ordinary hospital issue elbow crutches. Good on him. So L.A.B.'s song 'Running' both reminds me of when I was an able-bodied and amputee runner many years ago. Running is one of the most rewarding exercises the human body can perform. It is such a natural movement. I was motivated to begin running training after I watched New Zealander John Walker win the 1976 Olympic Games 1500m in Montreal on our family television. I also grew my hair to match Walker's long hair.
