Misty
L.A. Four Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You look to me
Like misty roses
Too soft to touch
But too lovely
To leave alone.

If I could be
Like misty roses
I'd love you much
You're too lovely
To leave alone.

Flowers often cry
But too late to find

That their beauty has been lost
With their peace of mind.

Got to see this combo with Shelly Manne on drums at the Paul Masson Winery in Cupertino, CA round about ‘72. It was amazing. I was too young to realize the greatness of these legends at the time, but I knew what I heard was exceptional.

It was amazing that Jeff Hamilton played with Woody. How time flies .

Thanks so much for posting this! I had the pleasure of enjoying an evening of the LA Four live in Santa Barbara in the mid 70's. It was truly a high point of the decade for me. Laurindo Almeida - an obvious musician's musician - from classical to straight ahead jazz, and infused Latin rhythms. Bud Shank was probably the best sax player I've ever heard live. Ray Brown, phenomenal! You could almost live on a diet of just this stuff. It was so good!

So glad you enjoyed it, Judy. Sadly, I never got to see Laurindo, but saw Bud Shank/Ray Brown/and Jeff Hamilton a number of times in different settings. For my money, Shank was the best---boy, he sure wore his emotion on his sleeve when he played, didn't he! Cheers!

@@paulduncan877Amen! Just a quiet evening - cleaning up after some friends came over for a visit. I put on my jazz mix and here I am - mesmerized again! All of a sudden - here come's Bud Shank - front and center - with an "in your face" sexy sax and a Getz styled bossa behind him - and have to quit drying dishes and just LISTEN!
