The "classic lineup" of the group would reunite in 1999 and began recording new material. However, the group continued to change lineups and Guns eventually left to form the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe in 2002. L.A. Guns continued without Guns, bringing in guitarist Stacey Blades, however, following his decision to put Brides of Destruction on hiatus in 2006, Guns formed The Tracii Guns Band. The group's lineup consisted of former L.A. Guns members Black, Alexander as well as Jeremy Guns (though the lineup would eventually change), with the group eventually changing their name to L.A. Guns. Both groups continued to record and tour under the L.A. Guns moniker until 2012, when the Tracii Guns-led version of the group disbanded. Riley died in 2023.
L.A. Guns (feat. Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) released a new single "Let You Down" on May 6, 2020. It was released as the first single from their then-upcoming fourteenth studio album Checkered Past, which was released on November 12, 2021, and featured producer Adam Hamilton on drums.
In May 2022, it was announced that Shawn Duncan had replaced Shane Fitzgibbon as their drummer. In the following month, guitarist Ace Von Johnson revealed that L.A. Guns had been working on new material for their next studio album. The resulting album, Black Diamonds, was released on April 14, 2023.
The Ballad
L.A. Guns Lyrics

Star shines down
Burning bright
Without a sound
The queen of angels
Take your crown
Yeah, shine on
You fly so high
Shine on
And every moment
Slips away
Doing my best trying to
Keep away
An innocence lost
The queen of sound
In the cold morning frost
We lay you gently down
Down, down, yeah
Shine on
And all the things you wished you'd said
Echoing inside your head
I cannot live I cannot die
Nothing left to do but try
I'm falling underneath your spell
Lift you up from your own hell
Numb yourself now from the pain
Wandering out in the rain
You fly so high
Don't ever come down
Queen of angels
Take your crown
An innocence lost
The queen of sound
In the cold morning frost
We lay you gently down
You fly so high
Don't ever come down
In the cold morning frost
We lay you gently down
The Ballad by L.A. Guns is a touching tribute to someone who has passed away but still lives on through their light and spirit. The song paints a picture of a shining star or a queen of angels whose light burns bright even after she's gone. The lyrics use imagery of a star and angel in order to create a sense of transcendence and purity, while the use of the phrase "queen of sound" adds a feeling of regality and dignity. The song acknowledges the loss of this person's innocence, but also honors her memory by saying "you fly so high, don't ever come down."
Throughout the song, the lyrics convey a sense of longing for this person who has passed away. The repetition of "shine on" and "you fly so high" emphasizes the idea that this person's spirit is still present and shining brightly, like a star. The chorus also implores her to "shine on" and to never come down from her place in the heavens. The last stanza of the song talks about the pain of missing someone and not being able to say the things we wish we had said while they were still alive. Overall, The Ballad is a poignant and heartfelt tribute to someone who will forever shine on in the hearts of those who loved her.

She was always something special
Diamond shining bright in the rain
Everybody dreams of angels
No one would ever know
How much I love you so
Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened to Jayne
You were always on my mind
Shine like a summer day in the sun
Slowly wishes turn to sadness
Time don't heal a broken gun
I wish I never let you go
Even now I just want you to know
That it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened to Jayne
Now she's breakin' hearts in heaven
Shinin' bright in the sky
I still hear her voice in the wind
I still think of you in the night, oh yeah
Well I guess you'll never know
How much I need her so
Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame
What happened to Jayne
Now it all seems funny, kinda like a dream
Things ain't always what they seem
What a shame, what happened to Jayne

So true that the 80's were extremely special and there really is NO REASON why band's couldn't begin to redo "the 80's" right now and forever more!! Rock on!!! Form new bands, write new songs PLEASE ❤️
@bendover2790
I’m a 19 year old guitarist. I have the image of an 80’s rockstar. I look a lot like Tommy Lee. Tall skinny. Long permed hair. Earrings, long cross earring.
I IDOLIZE THE 80’s. I would love to start an old school 80’s sounding band, but a lot of young people don’t want that. They prefer all that 90’s grunge alternative rock nirvana shit.
@pennwoman
Played this song at my wedding in 2018. You wouldn’t BELIEVE how many people came up to me asking who sang this song. Crowd loved it!

Anyone have a time machine, I want to go back and go to some of the concerts of big hair bands. Great music and I'm enjoying it 40 years later.
@beckyrichburg4895
I’m right there with you! I miss the 80s so much. I just don’t recognize this world we live in now.
