The "classic lineup" of the group would reunite in 1999 and began recording new material. However, the group continued to change lineups and Guns eventually left to form the hard rock supergroup Brides of Destruction with Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe in 2002. L.A. Guns continued without Guns, bringing in guitarist Stacey Blades, however, following his decision to put Brides of Destruction on hiatus in 2006, Guns formed The Tracii Guns Band. The group's lineup consisted of former L.A. Guns members Black, Alexander as well as Jeremy Guns (though the lineup would eventually change), with the group eventually changing their name to L.A. Guns. Both groups continued to record and tour under the L.A. Guns moniker until 2012, when the Tracii Guns-led version of the group disbanded. Riley died in 2023.
L.A. Guns (feat. Tracii Guns and Phil Lewis) released a new single "Let You Down" on May 6, 2020. It was released as the first single from their then-upcoming fourteenth studio album Checkered Past, which was released on November 12, 2021, and featured producer Adam Hamilton on drums.
In May 2022, it was announced that Shawn Duncan had replaced Shane Fitzgibbon as their drummer. In the following month, guitarist Ace Von Johnson revealed that L.A. Guns had been working on new material for their next studio album. The resulting album, Black Diamonds, was released on April 14, 2023.

How much more can we fear
Living next to hate you're not alone
What about death
What about pain
What about crime
There's more everyday
We talk about love
We live to be rich
While we ignore the poor
It's all about fame
Blind just the same
Burning our back doors down again
We have ourselves to blame
Watch that pain walking on the street
I can hear her screams echo through the tree
It's a youth gone dead
I can feel the heat
My cities run by the heartless and weak, their
Wasted
Everybody's wasted
No shoes on their feet
Wasted
Wild on the streets
Brother don't be fooled
By the drinks that you consume
Cover up your pain, you're not alone
What about life
What about trust
What about hope
Do you give into lust
Let's talk about fault
Let's talk about truth
Beg to be rich
While we ignore our youth
It's all about fame
We're blind just the same
Watching our children go insane
Feel that pain bleeding on the streets
I can hear the screams echo in the streets
It's a baby gone drive by
Can you feel the heat
My city is feeling worthless and weak, their
Wasted
Everybody's wasted
Dying on the streets
Wasted
Everybody's wasted
Wild on the streets
Watch that pain walking on the streets
I can hear her screams echo through the trees
Youth gone dead
I can feel the heat
My city is run by the worthless, their
Wasted
Everybody's wasted
Dying on the streets
Wasted
Everybody's wasted
Wild on the streets
Wasted
The song "Wasted" by L.A. Guns is a poignant commentary on the state of society and the world we live in today. The song talks about how we are living next to hate and not doing anything about it. The lyrics talk about how we are ignoring the pain, death, and crime in our communities, while living to be rich and famous. The song also touches upon the issue of youth going all out on the streets, without any hope or future, left to be destroyed by the society.
The lyrics of "Wasted" discuss how our current society favors fame and fortune over love, hope, and truth. The song encourages listeners to think about the consequences of their actions and to consider the welfare of those around them. It urges people to pay attention and take action in their communities, and not to let the youth go astray. The song warns us that if we continue to ignore the problems around us, we will end up in a society that is run by the heartless and weak.
