Once and for All
L.O.E Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Someone I’ve needed so long
For once unafraid I can go where life leads me and somehow I know I’ll be strong
For once I can touch what my heart used to dream of
Long before I knew
Someone warm like you
Who have my dreams come true
For once in my life I won't let sorrow hurt me
Not like it's hurt me before
For once I have someone I know won't desert me
I’m not alone anymore
For once I can say
This is mine you can’t take it
As long as I know I have love I can make it
For once in my life I have someone who needs me
For once I can say
This is mine you can’t take it
As long as I know I have love we can make it
For once in my life I have someone who needs me
In L.O.E's song "Once and for All," the lyrics encapsulate the transformative power of love and the sense of fulfillment that comes with it. The opening lines reveal a profound sense of connection between the singer and a significant other. The phrase "For once in my life, I have someone who needs me" conveys the deep-seated desire for companionship and reciprocity, suggesting that the singer has long waited for a relationship where they feel valued and indispensable. Such a connection brings a sense of reassurance, allowing the singer to embrace life's uncertainties without fear. The newfound strength, indicated by "somehow I know I'll be strong," points to the empowering nature of supportive relationships, where love becomes a foundation for personal resilience.
The lyrics continue to explore the dream-like quality of this relationship, emphasizing the singer's realization of once unattainable desires. Phrases like "I can touch what my heart used to dream of" illustrate the realization that their long-held aspirations are no longer distant fantasies but rather tangible realities. The mention of "someone warm like you" signifies not just a physical presence but also emotional warmth and understanding, indicating that this partner embodies everything the singer has ever wanted. This fulfillment of dreams indicates a contrast to the past—a past filled with longing and perhaps feelings of isolation—where the singer couldn't imagine achieving such emotional bliss until experiencing this love.
The narrative evolves to address the singer’s personal growth and resilience in the face of life's challenges. The line "For once in my life I won’t let sorrow hurt me" vividly reflects a rejection of past pain, illustrating the healing power of a loving partnership. This indicates a decisive shift from vulnerability and suffering to an empowered stance against adversity. The acknowledgment of having someone who is steadfast—"someone I know won't desert me"—underscores the significance of trust and reliability that distinguishes this relationship from previous experiences characterized by uncertainty, loneliness, or betrayal. This evokes a powerful sense of security, where the emotional scars of the past no longer dictate the singer’s present outlook.
In the concluding verses, the sense of ownership and agency amplifies, as the singer declares, "This is mine you can’t take it." This proclamation signifies not just a claim to love but also a deep understanding of its worth. The repetition of "As long as I know I have love, I can make it" reinforces the belief that love is an essential sustenance that empowers individuals to navigate the complexities of life. It emphasizes the message that love is both a personal possession and a mutual engagement that fosters growth, resilience, and purpose. Ultimately, the refrain "For once in my life I have someone who needs me" encapsulates a joyous realization—a culmination of longing and fulfillment whereby love becomes the key to a brighter, stronger existence.

ATL's ability to modernize their style and vibe without actually compromising the brand they've developed over the years is actually amazing. This song is awesome
@mh4971
If you asked me a year ago if I thought that they compromised, I would've told you yes. I wasn't there for when they started getting famous, but I definitely appreciate their earlier stuff the most. But now I'm actually reaching out again to listen to their new stuff, but with new ears. And yeah, I agree. I have to remember change isn't bad, and now a while generation of young kids can have that same fondness with ATL like I have.

@@mh4971 I got into them shortly after So Wrong, It's Right came out, but fell off them after being disappointed by Dirty Work. I think this is the first new song I've heard by them since that album? I quite enjoy it.
