The band was formed in 1997 by singer Kumi (born April 11, 1976 in Chiba Prefecture) and guitarist Naoki Sato (born July 21, 1973 in Shizuoka Prefecture), while studying at Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo. They signed with label Victor in 1999.
Their first album, The Greatest Hits, sold over two million copies. Their second album Love Psychedelic Orchestra, released in January 2001, sold 690,000 copies.
They have released four albums since, the last one was Golden Grapefruit, in 2007, and compilation album THIS IS LOVE PSYCHEDELICO, in June 2008.
Style
Stylistically, Love Psychedelico is highly reminiscent of the British Invasion of the late 60s, both members having cited The Beatles and Led Zeppelin as influences, though the influence of American folk and blues are also present (Kumi having claimed Janis Joplin and Sheryl Crow, and Sato Bob Dylan, as influences). To pay tribute to their influences, Love Psychedelico sometimes borrow song titles from the bands that influence them.
Kumi's lyrics are a mix of English and Japanese. Kumi often attributes her skilfulness in the English language to spending much of her early childhood in San Francisco.

The song "All Over Love" by LOVE PSYCHEDELICO is about a past love that the singer is struggling to move on from. The beginning of the song talks about how the feeling of love won't go away, even as tears obscure her thoughts. The lyrics mention that despite everything having gone, the footsteps of the beloved are still light, indicating their absence. The singer questions her own hopelessness but is reassured when she thinks of her lover, believing that as long as they don't turn away, everything will be alright.
In the chorus, the singer asks her lover to turn around and show her their face while she is holding onto a sliver of hope that they can be fully together again. She wants her lover to see her laughing and know that she still has feelings for them. She weeps in sadness at the thought of how they passed each other by but remains steadfast to the end. In the bridge, the same idea is repeated but more musically and in a less lyrically straightforward way, embodying the feeling of being lost in a dream-like state.
