After leaving Shreveport, she moved to New Orleans, where she studied music at the University of New Orleans and become a fixture in the city's Dixieland and bebop venues. Butler worked with such distinguished locals as Alvin Batiste, Ellis Marsalis, Henry Butler (no relation), and James Black before deciding to move to the New York area in 1984. Butler studied with Jon Hendricks after arriving in New York and later earned her living as an English teacher while tackling the Manhattan club world.
The early to mid-'90s found Butler signed to Chesky, for which she provided her bop-oriented debut album, No Looking Back (1992), and her lighter, more relaxed sophomore release, Day Dreamin' (1994). After leaving Chesky, Butler planned to record an album for Herbie Mann's Kokopelli label in 1997, but her plans fell through when the company experienced financial problems. 1999 saw the release of her third album, Blues in the City.

I USED TO SPEND MY TIME
JUST FEELING SORRILY.
I CAN'T BELIEVE THE CHANGES COMING OVER ME.
NOTHING CAN GET ME DOWN.
MY FRIENDS KEEP TELLING ME
THAT I DON'T LOOK THE SAME.
I'M ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN YOU'RE THE ONE TO BLAME.
'CAUSE SINCE YOU'VE BEEN AROUND
I KNOW THE BLUES ARE OUT OF TOWN.
THE BLUES JUST PACKED A BAG
AND LEFT IN THE NIGHT.
I NEVER EVEN SAW THEM GO.
THEY SEEMED TO DISAPPEAR
WITHOUT A GOODBYE
THE MOMENT THAT YOU SAID HELLO.
I'M THROUGH WITH MOANIN' LOW
AND NO MORE SINGING SAD
BECAUSE THE LOVE YOU GIVE ME IS THE BEST I'VE HAD.
I'VE GONE FROM LOST TO FOUND
BECAUSE THE BLUES ARE OUT OF TOWN.
In LaVerne Butler's song "The Blues Are Out Of Town," the singer reflects on how she used to feel sad and down, but now she feels happy and uplifted. She can't believe how much she's changed, and she credits this change to a person in her life who has helped her move on. She is grateful for the love and support she receives, and because of it, she no longer feels the weight of the blues.
The lyrics suggest that the blues are a feeling that can be lifted with the help of someone special. It's a powerful message because it's easy to get stuck in a cycle of sadness or depression, but sometimes, all it takes is one person to turn things around. The singer emphasizes this point by saying that the blues left without saying goodbye, which suggests that they were forced out by the new love and happiness in her life.
The song has a catchy and upbeat rhythm, which reflects the theme of the lyrics. It's a song about finding joy, and the music helps to convey that feeling. To sum up, "The Blues Are Out Of Town" is a song about finding love and happiness and leaving the sadness behind.
