Overall Meaning

The song "L'ivrogne" by La Bottine Souriante is about a man who is an alcoholic and has lived a life full of mistakes and regrets. The song is sung from his point of view as he tries to make light of his situation and entertain the people around him. He tells the listeners that they should laugh before they die, as life is too short to be serious all the time.

The lyrics talk about the singer's birth, his childhood and how he was loved by his parents and grandparents. However, as he grew older, he became a heavy drinker and his life took a different turn. The song talks about his experiences with alcohol, how he used to drink with his godparents during his baptism, and how he was loved by many women when he was younger. But now, he is a changed man, and all that remains from his youth is his memory.

The song ends with the singer asking the listeners to sing another song, but at a higher volume, as it will make him feel better. He also asks forgiveness from anyone who may hold a grudge against him, and suggests that they should have a beer together.

Il s'agit en effet de la version originale de cette chanson, elle a été remasterisée sur les derniers albums de la bottine. Du Ti-Gilles à son meilleur!
