El Viaje
La Gran Orquesta Republicana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to La Gran Orquesta Republicana's song, El Viaje, tell a story of someone climbing up a mountain to meet someone. This person has a head full of ideas and wants to tell the person they are meeting that they are with them in their struggle. As the person reaches the top, they see the person they were climbing to meet, who is wearing military clothing and smoking a pipe. They are even wearing a mask, but through the mask, they can see a big smile.

As the two begin to talk, they exchange information about what is happening and who is in charge. The person climbing the mountain tells the person they have come from far away, but they are not sure what they are looking for on this journey. They both know that they are being hunted and that their oppressors want to stop them. Despite this, they all agree that they will not be stopped or deterred.

The lyrics of the song suggest a sense of rebellion and resistance. The person climbing the mountain represents those who are oppressed and are ready to fight back against their oppressors. The person they meet represents the power structure that they are fighting against. The lyrics suggest a battle that is both external and internal, fought on both physical and emotional fronts.
