Since getting together in 2001, La Pieta has played indie venues in NYC, toured throughout the East Coast, released two albums on Contraphonic Records, and recorded a Split 7" with Brooklyn band Lungs of a Giant. La Pieta’s latest release, Inside Out, has been described as “heartfelt, harmonic, and guitar bright, but still in tune with the dark.” The band is gearing up for the release of its first full length album, Alone Together, scheduled to be released this Fall by Technical Echo Records.

This was the last film I watched in a theater together with my brother, mom, and dad (before they divorced). I remember we were all cracking up because when we got to the movies it was still a hot sunny afternoon, when the movie was over it was well after dark and noticeably cooler, it felt like we were in there forever. Once my father witness me arguing with my wife and I proudly prove that she's wrong - my father said : " congratulations you pissed the only person you should build life together" Most important is to have life together not separate Lifes of two people under one roof together. Cook clean do shopping together going to the bed in the same time- together and talk to eachother...and until you are young and as long as you can have as much sex as possible. ... intimacy bonds relationships....in my family no-one ever get divorced. My parents been married for 45years now I am married since 2009 have two kids. If your parents split up it means that they didn't work on relationship or they didn't understand eachother but to get that they should talk. This was back when film makers could make it's audience care about it's characters. Timmons was a slob but still a likeable and funny guy which made his death scene that much more sad and brutal. Most death scenes in movies today are forgettable because the characters are forgettable.

Gotta love Wes Studi. As a Native kid, I watched Wes Studi’s films. Even ‘HEAT’ was a great film and he did a great job. Great guy, loves the troops that serve, and he’s a one of the last fluent speaking Cherokee. The Last of the Mohicans was a great film, I remember when I was in the Marine Corps, devil dogs would watch the Huron Ambush the British Convoy almost every night when we were in Iraq. I remember the ‘5 civilized tribes’, but the studies didn’t make it a point as to who or why anyone would’ve destroyed the alliance between the U.S. Military and Native Americans. From my understanding, George Washington a military general made treaties with the Native Population, because that’s just what George is is a warfighter and warfighters make alliances with indigenous peoples first. I love history and as I became involved with politics. I read a lot of political science. My favorite is Dinesh D’Souza, I think his recent book is ‘Death of a Nation’ that my son read recently and in that book I think he mentioned the Jacksonian Democrats’ Genocide of Native Americans. Davey Crockett’s account was a good source, because he refused to fight the 5 civilized tribes during the Genocide. Even he was disgusted with how the campaign was conducted. Anyway, Dinesh used Davey Crockett’s account as well as some of the soldiers who fought in these wars.
There’s another book that I’m reading, called ‘Black Rednecks and White Liberals’ by Thomas Sowell. His research and explanation of Redneck culture in the south is very deep. It does stem from Europe, but it was hardly the English type. I think people, especially Native People should read some this work, because a lot of attitude that Native People have toward white folks today is Redneck Culture of the South and the Black ‘Ghetto Culture’ is also Redneck Culture of the South. It’s like a Zombie Virus egged on by white liberals and democrats. It’s very interesting and we all need to take a step back and listen to some history.

The Pawnee were mostly on friendly terms with the US Army out of necessity. They didn’t necessarily like white people or most other Native nations. The Oregon Trail cut right through much of their territory in Nebraska. That route disrupted the migration routes of the bison herds that sustained them. No doubt that angered them. There are also accounts of stragglers in wagon trains being set upon by Pawnee raiders. Pioneers dreaded crossing through their lands as they often demanded a toll to cross their land. Fort Hays (now the town of Hays) is in Western Kansas. Timmons had to go through Pawnee land in Kansas and Nebraska Territory to get to Fort Sedgwick in Lakota country. Towards the latter part of the 1800’s, the Pawnee were taking many defeats and losses from the Lakota,and other tribes. The US Army was a godsend at first as it helped them against their enemies. Finally, it got to be too much and they voluntarily left Nebraska for Oklahoma Territory from 1874 -1875 due to Lakota raids and continuous pressure from white settlers moving on their remaining lands.

As someone who is a Pawnee Native, the villainization of the Pawnee in this movie kind of bugs me. Both the Sioux and the Pawnee were fairly friendly with settlers. Now with each other, that’s a different story lol. But still, love this movie.

I don't know that it's unfair, it just lacks a little additional context. The Pawnee were getting pressure on both sides at this point and in just a few years would move out of the area for the Oklahoma territory. The stumbling block of the film is that we are (mostly) joined at the hip with Dunbar. So we see the tribes through his eyes. The Lakota are his friends and the Pawnee are the enemy of the Sioux, so they get cast in the villainous light.

No matter what the film’s imperfections, it correctly exposes how white men were the despicable true villains. I’m mostly white with distant traces of Native American heritage from each of my grandfathers. When I first watched this movie at age 14, I finally understood why I had always instinctively hated most white people so much. Maybe hatred is an immature emotion, but it isn’t unwarranted.

All these years later and it’s still an absolutely brutal scene. I’d put it up there with the rape scene in Deliverence and Lucabrasi getting choked from behind in The Godfather. You watch it almost hoping that this time it will end differently. But of course it never does. Also a good portrayal of Native American skills with bow and arrows. They were incredibly competent with them long before firearms entered their world.

Wtf?! No the native America bows were not accurate at all compared to European bows! This scene is incredibly inaccurate the Native Americans uses tracking and traps and would use their bows up close to kill their targets. They would not have been able to make shots like his first two not even close! They were more likely to ride up close on their horse and try to shoot when they are close. Please do a little bit of research before you start simping for woke points.

I was in the hospital for a long time. At that time there was very few channels to watch. Dances with Wolves played over and over and over again. I didn't mind so much cause there are so many great scenes in it and this was one of the best. He really played the character of Timmons perfectly...and God knows I love Wes Studi. Anyhow,I watched it so many times that after I was discharged I couldn't watch it for years... until just recently. Guess you don't want to give up something good forever!

Timmons was a teamster hired by the army to deliver supplies to ft. Sedgwick.
Back in that time period , a teamster would have an escort of troopers. Since he had a large load of goods for the fort. Also most men carried a revolver and a shotgun whenever they were in hostile country.

A few years back I worked a wind farm build south of Ponca City, Oklahoma. Wound up staying in Pawnee for a while. Pawnee is basically where the HQ of the Pawnee tribe is located... Small town, very quiet. I decided to research the town a bit and found out that little bitty town produced two Medal of Honor recipients. Important scene in the plot line...after Fambrough committed suicide back at Fort Hays, that left Timmons as pretty much the only person who had any idea that Dunbar was at Fort Sedgewick...throughout the rest of the film Dunbar references waiting for relief and reinforcements that would never come because nobody knew he was there...

Yea, the regular version of the film leaves out some key plot elements. There is a scene In the director's cut near the end when Dunbar is captured, you see that officer from Fort Hays that was in the scene near the beginning (dark hair and beard) watching Dunbar and looking as though he might vaguely remember him.

Another historical anomaly was that the Pawnees were portrayed as the "bad" Indians while the Sioux were portrayed as the "good" Indians. This was not true at all. The dominant Plains Indian tribes were the Sioux and the Cheyenne, and the Pawnees were dominated overwhelmingly by them.

Quite unfair to depict the Pawnee doing this. The Pawnee, especially during this period (1860s), got along well with white settlers. It was more likely that tribes such as the Sioux, Cheyenne, Kiowa and Comanche would have done this. The Pawnee hated those tribes and joined the United States Army to fight them. Pawnees joined as scouts in such large numbers that the army created the Pawnee Battalion. Check out Mark Van De Logt's book, War Party in Blue!

The Chiricahua Apaches didn't get on with other tribes, either. They even fought with other Apaches, such as the White Mountain and Western Apache tribes. Would you call them traitors? Robert Pastorelli was shooting pool with us the night he died. He left sunset blvd, went home and overdosed. I remember him telling me how he was able to improvise some of his lines on this film. The police claimed they were about to charge him for the death of the mother of his kids, her alleged suicide story didn't add up they claimed. Had Robert lived and his trial would of been happening at the same time as the Phil Spector murder trial. Ironically Robert died in the same bathroom his ex was found dead in, his kids nanny found his body the next day. Now we'll never know what the outcome of that trial would of been.

@Documentary Detective II look it up. he was about to be charged for murder before he overdosed. he was also suffering from crones and had been having some of his internal organs removed as a result of that. his autopsy was in a book to about famous Hollywood autopsies. Robert would come into our tattoo shop on sunset blvd for ink and We'd noticed his strange scar's on him but never knew it was from his crone's. he was dying all along and never told anyone. the night he died he was getting a tattoo and then he played pool with us until early in the morning, he went home and overdosed that night. I don't think it was suicide, I think he'd been clean for so long that he lost his tolerance for it and he died. people who commit suicide don't usually get a tattoo several hours before they off themselves. maybe in the long run he was better off dead rather than face public shame and incarceration. ultimately he lost everything including his kids and him dieing in the same room that his ex allegedly committed suicide in was just karma catching up with Robert.
