¿Por qué me has abandonado?
The song "Llueve en Semana Santa" by La Raíz is a reflection on faith and religion, specifically on the nature of prayer and belief in a higher power. The song mentions the prayer of Jesus at the moment of his death, and the singer's own struggles with faith and temptation.
The opening lines of the song describe the singer's childhood beliefs, where he thought his mother was a pregnant virgin, and believed he could walk on water if he concentrated hard enough. However, as he grew older and experienced the pull of temptation, he realized that his faith was not enough to protect him. The chorus of the song addresses the hypocrisy and greed of organized religion, accusing those in power of using faith as a tool to make money and control people.
The second verse of the song introduces the idea that the devil can be found within religious leaders and those in positions of power. The singer describes a dream where he is tempted to sin by the devil, and ultimately decides to live life to the fullest because it is a gift. The chorus repeats the message that faith cannot be bought or sold, and that there are no longer any saints or gods who can save us.
The song ends with a direct reference to the prayer of Jesus on the cross, where he questions why his god has forsaken him. This line suggests that the singer, like Jesus, is struggling with doubt and a sense of abandonment. Overall, the lyrics of "Llueve en Semana Santa" critique organized religion and offer a plea for individuals to form their own beliefs and live life on their own terms.

Nuestra reflexión de hoy
Today our reflection focuses on Jesus' prayer at the moment of his death
I used to believe that mom was a pregnant virgin
That if I concentrated enough, walking on water would be a child's play
But nothing, I bit the apple, shame bit into modesty
I didn't lift your cassock to love you, nor did I pray your prayer
Tenéis buena intención, queréis salvar mi alma
You have good intentions, you want to save my soul
Sabemos que queréis dinero, así que, calma
We know you want money, so calm down
You have good intentions, you want me to keep playing the game
Siglo tras siglo, vendiéndonos el cielo
Century after century, selling us the sky
Y otra vez, otra vez, llueve en Semana Santa
And once again, it's raining during Holy Week
No, they will not sell us those castles in the air
No, they will not sell us to drink their blood
No, no, no, no, there are no more saints, nor God, nor God
Ni dios que os aguante
Not even God can bear you
With time, I realized that the devil is inside
De cardenales obispos y reyes
Of cardinals, bishops, and kings
Who want you to follow laws that scare the people
I used to dream that the devil slept beside me
Y el insomnio me llevó al pecado
And insomnia led me to sin
Now I eat and drink life because it's a gift
They will not sell us those castles in the air (No)
Dios mío, dios mío
My God, my God
¿Por qué me has abandonado?
Why have you forsaken me?
