Pels carrers deixava,
Corria com un senglar ferit
Per defensar-me a casa
Y cada dia al despertar
un pueblo mata y otro muere
Y cada dia al despertar
despiertan raíces que se mueven
Buscando algun otro lugar
Osama, Obama, school and bombs
Foc als carrers de Oaxaca,
Un altre dia més,
Comença com s'acaba l'anterior
I en la foscor d'aquesta terra,
L'exèrcit fa la guerra
Contra un poble que respon
els designis de misèria
Un altre dia més,
Un altre dia més,
Comença com s'acaba l'anterior,
Osama, Obama, school and bombs
Corria com un senglar ferit
Pels carrers deixava
Corria com un senglar ferit
Per defensar-me a casa
Y cada dia al despertar
Un pueblo mata y otro muere
Y cada dia al despertar
despiertan raices que se mueven
buscando algun otro lugar
The song "Raíces" by La Raíz is a powerful anthem about the struggle for justice and the desire to make a meaningful impact on the world. The first verse features a series of dreams, each of which represents a different aspect of the songwriter's desire to break free from the constraints of society and become a force for change. He dreams of watching Pedro Guerra perform, a traditional Spanish singer-songwriter who often focused on political themes. He dreams of laughing and crying with the films of Fellini, an Italian director known for his social criticism. He dreams of fighting against fascist regimes alongside historical figures such as Che Guevara, Robespierre, and Durruti, and he also dreams of more mundane things, such as being a simple bricklayer or inventing the wheel.
The rest of the song deals with the struggles of living in a world where violence and oppression are commonplace. The chorus repeats the image of a wounded wild boar running through the streets, which is a metaphor for the songwriter's own feeling of vulnerability in the face of so much chaos and destruction. Every day when he wakes up, he sees more death and destruction all around him, and the "roots" of his own desire for change become more and more fervent. The song ends with a repetition of the first verse, suggesting that the dream of making a difference is still very much alive, despite the difficulties of living in such a harsh and unforgiving world.
