The group itself is composed of musicians Mourad Musset, Olivier Leite and Florent Vintrigner, all of them coming from the Théâtre du fil in Paris, France. At First, La Rue Kétanou was playing in the streets of la Rochelle and the île de Ré. The show was a mix between theater and music. Their motto was "C'est pas nous qui sommes à la rue, c'est la rue Kétanou", meaning "We don't belong to the street, the street belongs to us"
After spending some time living a semi bohemian life, the group ended up meeting Bibou, a member of Tryo, who asked them to be the opening act for the Tryo shows at L'Olympia and for the rest of their tour.
The first album of La Rue Kétanou, En attendant les caravanes (Waiting for the caravans) was finally produced in 2001. After some time doing tours throughout France, the group completed a second album Y'a des cigales dans la fourmilière (Cicadas in the ant-hill) in 2002. In 2004, they released a live album Ouvert à double tour. However, after this album, there were rumours that they were about to break up. Fortunately, these rumours ended up being untrue. Florent, however, spent some time in a related project, the group T'inquiète Lazare. Mourad and Olivier also formed a new band with several other musicians and friends, Mon côté punk.
After this pause, the group is touring again with two new members, Pierre Joseph and Simoné Monticelloni.

Tu parles trop
La Rue Kétanou Lyrics

Tu parles trop, tu parles trop, tu parles trop
Tu n'écoutes plus personne et plus personne ne t'écoute
Donnez-lui quelque chose à manger ou bien quelqu'un à embrasser
N'importe quoi pour l'occuper pour le faire taire sans se fâcher
{Au refrain}
Pousse-toi, laisse passer les anges, et les modestes et les timides
Tais-toi, tu gagneras au change, faut se remplir quand on se vide
{Au refrain}
Et ce n'est pas que ton discours ne semble pas intéressant
Tu parles peut-être même d'amour, ouais mais tu parles, tu parles tout le temps
{Au refrain}
Tu doubles tout le monde et tu te vautres, tu sais c'est du pareil au même
Quand on passe à côté des autres on passe à côté de soi-même
{Au refrain}
La Rue Kétanou's song Tu parles trop is a commentary on people who talk too much and fail to listen to others. The lyrics of the refrain repeat the phrase "Tu parles trop" (You talk too much) and "Tu n'écoutes plus personne et plus personne ne t'écoute" (You don't listen to anyone anymore and nobody listens to you anymore), emphasizing the theme of one-way communication. The song urges the person to find something else to occupy themselves with, whether it be something to eat or someone to kiss, as a way to silence them without getting angry.
The verses of the song continue with similar admonitions to the chatty person, telling them to make room for others, to be quiet and listen, and to remember that talking constantly is not the same thing as making interesting conversation. The lines "Quand on passe à côté des autres on passe à côté de soi-même" (When we pass next to others we pass next to ourselves) suggest that by failing to engage with others in a meaningful way, the talkative person may also fail to truly know themselves.
Overall, the lyrics of Tu parles trop offer a critique of communication that is all one-way, self-absorbed, and ultimately unfulfilling. Instead, they suggest that true communication comes from listening as well as speaking and from engaging with others in a way that is respectful and mutual.
