In 1997 the band released its first eponymous album, which was very successful and earned them lots of radio and TV air play and album sales. In 1999 they recorded "Kaleidoscopio", selling over 5,000 copies. Then the band took a hiatus due to the departure of Michel Maluje to Mexico, where he played with Julieta Venegas. In 2005 the band (now including Rodrigo Velasco) returned to the studio to record "Distinto". After that release, the band decided to go their separate ways. None of the two last albums had been as successful as the first one and their hype began to die out.
Francisco Valenzuela released a solo album named "Sirenas" in 2009 and from 2017 onwards he continued to play some gigs under the name "La Rue Morgue" with some of his students in Escuela Moderna de Música, a private music institute in Chile in which he worked as a teacher. On july 7th, 2022, Valenzuela was admitted into the ICU after suffering a stroke. Seven days later, on july 14th, his death was confirmed.
Sombra De Las 9 Y 30
La Rue Morgue Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to La Rue Morgue's song Sombra De Las 9 Y 30 appear to be a lament for a loved one who has passed away, struggling with the pain of their absence and the memories of their life. The opening lines set a melancholy tone, with the imagery of winter in autumn indicating a premature end to life. The singer acknowledges that their loved one had been battling inner demons, which gradually consumed them. The line "Tu sonrisa se me fue con el suspiro" suggests that the loved one died with a sigh that took their smile with it.
The second verse finds the singer reminiscing about happier times, when they were a child in the embrace of their loved one, surrounded by the comforting smells of home. The line "De la mano hacia el último destino" suggests that this loss was unexpected, that they had planned to grow old together. But instead, the loved one waited for the "sombra de las 9 y 30," the shadow of 9:30 (either AM or PM), to leave this life. The final lines of the song suggest that while the pain of loss is great, there may be other, better worlds in which they can reunite someday.
