Strawberry Fields Forever
La Santa Cecilia Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed
Misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out
It doesn't matter much to me
Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields

Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about
Strawberry Fields forever

No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low

That is you can't you know tune in but it's
All right, that is I think it's not too bad

Always, no sometimes, think it's me
But you know I know when it's a dream

I think I know I mean a 'Yes' but it's
All wrong, that is I think I disagree
Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to
Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real
And nothing to get hung about

Overall Meaning

In "Strawberry Fields Forever," La Santa Cecilia takes their audience on a psychedelic journey through the imagination of John Lennon. The song opens with a seductive invitation by the band's lead vocalist to join her down in "Strawberry Fields." This call is an allusion to a Salvation Army children's home, which was located just outside of Lennon's childhood home in Liverpool. Lennon was known to wander in the fields surrounding the home, and the song's opening line is his invitation to the listener to join him on one of these adventures.

As the song progresses, we are given a glimpse into Lennon's belief that nothing is real and that living is easy with our eyes closed. Lennon was famously interested in Eastern philosophy, specifically focusing on the study of mindfulness and meditation. These beliefs are reflected in the song's lyrics, which call on the listener to look beyond the everyday, mundane aspects of life and open themselves up to the limitless possibilities that exist within our imagination.

The line "No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low" is often interpreted as Lennon's way of saying that he doesn't feel like he belongs anywhere. He feels disconnected from the outside world and seeks out his own solitary space within the confines of his own mind. The song ultimately concludes with the line "Strawberry Fields forever," a testament to the power of the imagination and the beauty that can be found within it.
