Its founders were Sebastián Teysera (lead vocals, frontman and main songwriter), Nicolás Lieutier (bass guitar) and Santiago Butler (guitar) - all three are still part of the band today. The band's first appearance as La Vela Puerca was in a montevidean street party in December 24, 1995. By then, several new members had already joined in. In 1996, frontman Sebastián Teysera presented a demo tape to a band contest. The rest of the band did not become aware of this until they found out they were one of the twenty finalists. A month later, they recieved a phone call saying they had won, and with this they were given 80 hours of free recording session which would be vital for their debut album.
La Vela Puerca released four albums: Deskarado (1998)(1999 released in Europe as "La Vela Puerca"), De Bichos Y Flores (2001), A Contraluz (2004)and El Impulso (2007).
In Germany they're well-known since they've played with Die Ärzte in Germany and Uruguay. In 2006 they're touring again in Europe.
Clones
La Vela Puerca Lyrics

Profeta enfermo:
¿o sos cómplice, de él..?
Castillo al suelo
la realidad otra vez, se te va…
Matan renglones, los clones
se hacen rey
que no hay razones
que me maten, de una vez
y ahí están…
Sus oraciones, de confusión letal
Los pormenores, de su ambición actual..
Llenan rincones
con las versiones, de un triste disfraz
de moral…
Cuándo ese ego, también es droga
¡es tinta de la peor!
La hipocresía, se vuelve moda
la del fiel consumidor, que drogás…
Construyen miedos (o vos se los pagás..)
Soltá el veneno,(¿o vos no querés dar?)
Patéala en serio
tu realidad te dejó, sin pensar….
Son oradores
de males, que hacen ley..
Muchos borrones, los parches, no se ven
y ya son roles
difíciles de creer y poder
respetar.
The lyrics to La Vela Puerca's song "Clones" touch on the power of conformity and the dangers of blindly following societal expectations. The first verse speaks to a world that is blind to the reality of the situation or simply chooses to ignore it. The second verse alludes to the danger of blindly following a leader or prophet who may actually be "sick" or manipulative. The line "Castillo al suelo" (castles on the ground) speaks to the idea that even the most powerful institutions can come crashing down in the face of reality.
The chorus highlights the danger posed by those who blindly conform, who kill off originality and become the "clones" who rule. They hide in their boxes and close themselves off from the world, refusing to see another perspective. The bridge speaks to the confusion and hypocrisy of those in power, who fill the world with their versions of morality and truth, all while masking their true intentions.
The final verse speaks to the danger of ego and self-importance, and how it can become a drug that clouds one's judgment. Those who follow blindly build fear and spread it to those around them, while those who refuse to conform may be labeled as troublemakers or outcasts.
Overall, the song encourages listeners to think for themselves, question authority, and not succumb to blind conformity.
