La Yegros resides in the pulsing heart of cosmopolitan Buenos Aires, but her family hails from the tropical climates found in the rural rain forests of the north, bordering Brazil. She received classical, conservatory training in music and got her break when she played before thousands as part of the De La Guarda experimental theatre.
Confident and vibrant in approach, she’s been championed by MTV Iggy, as well as by Fader Magazine, who hailed La Yegros’ “raw urgency while sounding completely relaxed and conversational”. Listening to her sing, there’s the swagger of a Kelis or even Jamaican dancehall combined with the indomitable homespun wisdom of a vintage soul queen, such as Laura Lee or Angie Stone.

Linda canción y video. Había comenzado a escribir y perdí el comentario. La vi dos veces y traté de encontrar el significado del título. Para mi la Yegros hace un himno a la cumbia utilizando una música andina "Perú o Bolivia". Música hermosa de hecho.
El arte al ser algo muy subjetivo permite que cada quien se haga sus propios conceptos sobre una obra sea cual sea su naturaleza. Le Guernica de Picasso no tiene el mismo valor para un republicano que para un nacionalista en la Espana de 1936.
Asi está canción esta muy lejos de ser una "cumbia". Esto no le resta a su acierto musical. Pero cuando yo acompaño una milonga, vals o tango con el cajón trato de respetar lo más que pueda el patrón rítmico.
Yo nací en la costa Norte de Colombia de donde viene la cumbia y vivo en Francia en donde he visto "una fusión" con la cumbia a lo que le llaman cumbia después que lleve el "chiquicha chiquicha".
También hago parte de un grupo de cumbia tradicional con gaitas y tambores. Con el que comenzamos hace poco y a veces cuando hemos tocado la gente nos mira como "WTF" eso es cumbia?.
Por eso me atreví a hacer el comentario porque gracias a canciones como estas en la cual se hace una anafora perpetua de la palabra "cumbia" termina no por darle una posibilidad de las tantas que puede dar la cumbia y sus fusiones al consumidor sino que terminar por hacer creer que eso es cumbia.
En mi grupo soy el único que quiere que metamos batería y otros instrumentos electrónicos pero no se puede por ser minoría.
Pero cuando suena la batería respeta los tiempos y formas de la cumbia.
Por eso dejo el video que está en mi comentario porque creo que él les dará a los lectores una idea de lo que es por lo menos la base rítmica de la cumbia.
Un grupo que recomiendo es los Guayabo Brothers de Toulouse verán ustedes la fusión que logran ellos, Pernett en Colombia por citar cumbia de "Moderna", Colectro o Boza. Todos colombianos pero que fusionan muy bien y no pierden la base de la cumbia y de otros ritmos hermanos y que no utilizan la palabra cumbia porque uno la escucha.
Les deseo un feliz día y como dije anteriormente el arte es subjetivo.
