In the fall of 1999 at a lunch canteen of the university outside of Uppsala, Sweden, Markus was humming to a Belle & Sebastian song so that David could hear him. It was enough to convince that the chasm between an indie-nerd who didn't care enough and a vegan who wanted only to demonstrate could in fact be bridged. Later they moved in together and formed LAAKSO. The name LAAKSO and the fact that the band exclusively sang in Finnish when they first formed is due to David's both parents and Markus' mother all coming from Tornedalen (Tornionjokilaakso, Laakso meaning valley).
After resolutely searching amongst the students of Uppsala they found Micke, a dungeons and dragons fanatic from Gotland (an island on the East coast of Sweden) who liked Guns & Roses and loved to play bass; and Jonathan, the drummer. Jonathan developed stage fight and was replaced a few days before the recording of their debut EP - Long Beach EP - by Lars, a carefree lad with passion for funk.
Things developed at a steady pace and LAAKSO made new friends. David and the Citizens and The Concretes were probably the most meaningful meetings. The first indirectly lead to a recording contract with a small independent Adrian Recordings and Luger to become their booking agency. The second meeting lead to a love affair between Laakso and producer Jari Haapalainen (Ed Harcourt, Moneybrother, Kristofer Åström, The Concretes and Nicolai Dunger).
Since then Jari had accompanied guys into the studio for all their recordings - from Long Beach EP via LAAKSO's debut album I Miss You, Im Pregnant and a single Aussie Girl to their second release My Gods and finally to an album Mother, Am I Good Looking?.
Oh My Love
Laakso Lyrics

It happens every third year
That I find someone to love like you.
Oh yes like you.
But I know it won't work out well.
How go I know?
I just know!
It happens every now and then
That I dream of when we'll have some time,
Just you and I.
But I know we never will.
But I will keep hoping oh yea I will.
Oh my love, oh my love.
It happens every time you hang up on me
I tell myself,
Oh let her be.
Oh yeah let her be.
But you know I never will.
It'll be back time and time again.
Oh my love, oh my love, oh my love.
It happens everytime I call you my love,
You say "please don't call me that".
But why shouldn't I,
When I know that it will be another three years
Before I can say it and mean it again.
After all you'll never find a better boyfriend.
The lyrics to Laakso's song "Oh My Love" depict the singer's strong yet contradictory feelings towards the person they love. The chorus begins with the repetition of "Oh my love," creating a sense of emphasis and urgency. The first stanza describes how the singer finds someone to love every three years, but they know the relationship won't work out well. This line could suggest that the singer has a pattern of falling in love with someone who is not right for them or that they are fearful of commitment. The second stanza describes how the singer often dreams of spending time with their lover, but they know it will never happen. This line could indicate that the person they love is already in a committed relationship or simply not interested in the singer. The third stanza portrays how the singer repeatedly calls their love interest even when they know they should not. This line could imply that the singer is obsessed with the person they love or that they cannot control their desire to speak with them. Finally, the chorus ends with the singer believing that their love interest will never find someone better than them.
Overall, the lyrics are a mixture of hope and despair, desire and resignation, love and fear. The singer longs for the person they love, but at the same time, they are aware that the relationship is unlikely to work out. The repetition of "Oh my love" throughout the chorus adds a sense of passion and emotion to the song, further emphasizing the singer's intense feelings towards their lover. In conclusion, "Oh My Love" is a poignant and relatable song about the complexity of love and human emotions.
