La Vieja
Labordeta Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tu tus mitos y tus penas
Huyen barbecho y erial
Cubren los viejos olivos
Con tu densa soledad.
Siempre te recuerdo "Vieja"
Zurciendo la eternidad
Con tus palabras menudas
Ocultando la verdad.
Miguel murió en el andamio
Y los chicos del Julian
Al final de aquel verano
Volvieron a la ciudad
A ti te enterramos pobre
Como debia pasar.
Al lado de tu marido
Tus padrs y el sacristan
Que loco ante las campanas
Se deguazo ante el altar
Siempre te recuerdo "Vieja"
Nunca te podre olvidar
Eternamente paciente sufriendo sin mas ni mas
The song "La vieja" by José Antonio Labordeta is a tribute to an elderly woman who is reminiscing about her past while sitting by the door of her home. The woman is described as sitting and fondling the embers of the fire while looking out into the distance. Her eyes betray a deep sadness, reminding her of her children who migrated to France and those who moved to the city. The woman's daily life is monotonous, and she spends most of her time praying for the dead. She believes that life is full of pain and suffering, and that there is no escape from it.
The melancholic tone of the song increases as Miguel falls off a scaffold, and the woman's son's wife gives birth. The woman's misery deepens, as she realizes that everything changes, but suffering remains constant. The woman is described as being surrounded by her past while she experiences loneliness, disconnecting her from the present.
The song's lyrics share a deep symbolism that is associated with life's harsh realities, and how we are destined to suffer. The old woman's story symbolizes the universal human experience, where suffering is inevitable, and life is fleeting. The song has a bittersweet quality to it and portrays a melancholic image of life.

Mis respetos y reconocimiento a Jose Antonio Labordeta.
