Still Don't Know My Name
Labrinth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I took your heart
I did things to you only lovers would do in the dark
It made you a God
Priests, popes, and preachers would tell me I did it wrong
But, hey
You made a negro flip
What do I say
To make me exist? Oh
Stranger

Still don't know my name
You still don't know my name
And I would die your slave
Baby, right now
But you still don't know my name
Yeah

Wish you, wish you'd come over, mm
Miss you, kiss you in make-believe
I'm dreamin' of all of the possibilities
I'm kissin' all over your body, my Nefertiti
And every time I think the planets alignin'
You're still so close, but yet so far

Still don't know my name
You still don't know my name
And I would die your slave
Baby, right now

But you still don't know my name
Yeah

Overall Meaning

In Labrinth's song "Still Don’t Know My Name," he describes being in love with someone who doesn't even know his name. The first stanza talks about the intimacy he's shared with this person, where he states that he has done things to them that only lovers would do in the dark. He says that this person has elevated him to the level of a God, and even though people may not approve of their relationship, he can't help but be drawn to this person. He questions what he can say or do to make himself known to this person and to make himself more than just a stranger.

In the chorus, he continues to express his feelings of longing and desire to be known by this person. He says that even if it means being a slave to this person, he would be willing to do it if it means being with them. However, he laments that despite his efforts, this person still doesn't know his name.

In the second verse, he expresses his yearning for this person to be in his life. He wishes that they would come over and that he could be with them. He admits to daydreaming about all the possibilities of their future together while kissing all over their body. However, he acknowledges the distance that still exists between them even though they are physically close.

Overall, the song is a heartfelt declaration of love and desire for someone who remains out of reach. Labrinth's words paint a picture of a deeply emotional journey of unrequited love and the frustration that comes with it.

To me Netflix has shitty and cliche teen shows but HBO actually made a masterpiece. I’ve probably haven’t found a good Netflix teen show but most of them are shitty and cliche
