Lack was Thomas Burø, Jakob Nielsen, Kasper Andersen, and Jacob Johansen from Copenhagen, Denmark.
We all know the feeling of getting a kick in the gut, a slap on the side of your head, being knocked out of your everyday-doze by total surprise. It’s a weird and nauseating experience, and only afterwards you realize how important it is. Lack was that kind of experience. Whether on record or in a frantic live setting, they managed to suck the air out of the listener. The sound was sincere, earnest, and fun but never funny.
Honing their harsh and complex hardcore approach through the years, finding the real challenge in expressing more with less, Lack turned into a fascinatingly rocking outfit fixed on details and the tightness of simplicity in 2005. “The hardcore scene, and the environment surrounding it, has taught us a lot as a band but also as individuals,” drummer Jacob said when ‘Be There Pulse’ was released, “the hardcore/punk network helped spread our music to many parts of the world and gave us the chance to see and experience more than we could have asked for on tour. All that is not something we just put behind us because our musical focus is a little different. We don’t want to limit ourselves to one particular genre of music. We want to reach people, not just one type of people.” These guys knew how to walk the line and serve music with a message, not a message with music. Singer/guitarist Thomas once said, “Our lyrics are political, but that’s not to say that Lack is a political band. We are not interested in using political awareness to promote ourselves; but if on the other hand we can promote political awareness through our activities, then fine!”
After three albums and well over 300 shows, Lack’s members mutually decided that it was the right time to bring the band to an end. “This band has always been driven by motivation, passion and love for what we are doing,” Lack said, “as of lately we must recognize that motivation is coming short, that inspiration has been drying out and that tours seem to take us down all too familiar roads. We simply recognize the fact that it is now time for the four of us to part ways, move on and let Lack be.”

Lack Lyrics

There is a price on your head: 'you have to give in order to get!' Slogan of the welfare state and capitalist economy. I don't mind paying tax if it goes to schools and hospitals. But I mind being equal to my bankaccount or what I can pay. How much work I equal. I mind trading one kiss for another. Tyranny of the Equivalent: everything has price!
In the first verse of Lack's song 'Dawn', he is highlighting the fact that in our capitalist society, everything has a price and can be sold, including air - if it were possible to have the legal rights to it. He emphasizes the idea that we as a society are making everything and everyone the same, which inevitably leads to nothing being left that can't be sold. The Ethic of the Free Market is the idea that the more we buy things we don't necessarily need, the happier we will be with our lives. Lack refers to this as the tyranny of the equivalent, where everything has a price and our worth is determined by how much we can offer.
In the second verse, Lack talks about the idea of 'giving in order to get', which is a slogan often used in the welfare state and capitalist economy. He doesn't mind paying taxes as long as they go towards schools and hospitals, but he doesn't want to be equal to his bank account or what he can pay. He is challenging the notion of everything having a price and not wanting to trade one kiss for another just because they have the same price. Lack doesn't want to sell himself and give into the tyranny of the equivalent.
Overall, the song 'Dawn' is a critique of our capitalist society and the ideas that everything has a price, and worth is determined by how much one can offer. Lack is advocating for escaping this realm and not selling oneself to the tyranny of the equivalent.
