Enjoy The Silence
Lacuna Coil Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Break the silence
Come crashing in
Into my little world
Painful to me
Pierce right through me
Can't you understand
Oh, my little girl
[Chorus]
All I ever wanted
All I ever needed
Is here
In my arms
Words are very
Unnecessary
They can only do harm
Vows are spoken
To be broken
Feelings are intense
Words are trivial
Pleasures remain
So does the pain
Words are meaningless
And forgettable
[Chorus: x3]
Enjoy the silence [Repeat: x4]
The first verse of Lacuna Coil's Enjoy the Silence is a tribute to the power of words. The lines "Words like violence/Break the silence/Come crashing in" effectively communicate the notion that words are not to be taken lightly. They can be as violent as physical blows, breaking down barriers and affecting change. The singer of the song feels the power of words like a physical sensation, as they pierce right through her, causing a deep pain.
The chorus of the song focuses on the idea that all the singer ever wanted or needed is here in her arms. This line could be interpreted to mean that what the singer desires is comfort or solace in the face of the violent power of words. The phrase "words are unnecessary/They can only do harm" suggests that the singer believes that words are trivial at best, and can only cause harm and pain.
The second verse is a meditation on the transience of words. The line "Vows are spoken to be broken" speaks to the idea that the words we use to express our deepest feelings are ultimately meaningless, as they can change in a moment. The line "Words are trivial/Pleasures remain" suggests that while words may have no lasting value, there are real pleasures and experiences that are more important. The final line of the verse, "Words are meaningless/And forgettable" brings the song-full circle, returning to the idea that words are ultimately meaningless.

The names for FFM (female fronted metal) seems endlessly. I don't mean that in a bad way. We all should be so lucky, that the metal-scene does have so many of them. Each of this list is fantastic on it's own.
